LOL I can see both sides as 40 years ago I was going around the old Hyde Park (Devils Corner) @ Marble Arch and the Old Trafalgar Square on driving lessons and Hyde Park roundabouts were all "every man for himself then so scary). As someone who first drove for 2 years in Inner London until I moved almost 40 years ago To The Suburbs,I felt that if I could drive amidst the chaos there I could drive anywhere but, as you know, other areas like Cornwall have their own special challenges:

Technically there is No "slow Lane" as the speed limit for each lane is the same. We have a "Drive on the left & Return to the left " after overtaking rule. You can actually "Get Done" (get a ticket) if you stay in the middle lane (Lane 2) but I've never seen it enforced. Oh.. I've been a Trucker for 35 years and have probably over 2 million miles under my right foot. You did alright in Landan. No one with a sane mind likes driving there !!

Well, I must say that I’m extremely impressed and so proud of you guys embarking on what I would say was a near suicidal baptism of fire for your first English drive. We got a taxi from Waterloo station to Claridges hotel, and the traffic was moving so fast. I thought “how the hell does the driver know which lane to get in?” I am English but there is no way I would drive in Central London, only the suburbs. As everyone says it gets much easier from now on. I think the best way to remember it is that the slow lane is on your husband’s side on a motorway or dual carriageway. Hope you enjoy the little harbours in Cornwall and the rest of your trip, and hope the weather holds up for you. Will continue watching with interest.

Lots of history, like the last duel in England was fought out there, the Magna Carta was signed there in 1215, Marilyn and Arthur Miller stayed here whilst filming in 1956. Well done for driving in London, it's a stressful experience 😅 so pleased to hear you are visiting Newcastle as a local here there are a few places you don't want to miss, obviously Newcastle city centre and quayside is lovely and worth a visit, but it's nice to venture outside of it you will find Beamish open air living museum which is amazing you can literally step back in time visit the manor house, ride the steam train and trams, visit the 1905 town with pub bakery sweet shop and dentist go down a mine in the pit village and have traditional fish and chips from the chip shop there, there's a farm a new 1950's street it's simply brilliant you would love it. Also the coast in this area is amazing Whitley bay, Tynemouth and South Shields are lovely to visit, but you can travel slightly further north past Alnwick which has the castle where some of Harry potter was filmed, onto bamburgh which has another stunning castle and beautiful coast! And then a tiny bit further north you can cross the causeway onto holy island where you can access it at low tide (be sure to check the tides) there you will find lindesfarne priory which was pillaged by the Vikings the island has an amazing history not many overseas tourists know about it although it's very locally known, and you practically have to pass it on the A1 on route to Edinburgh. Next time you're in London, one thing to check would be "The London Duck Tours". These are like the London bus tours, but with a difference... The tour is in a restored WW2 amphibious vehicle (called a DUKW, nicknamed Duck). Part of the tour takes place driving around the various sites of central London, THEN the vehicle proceeds into the Thames River and the rest of the tour takes place going past Tower Bridge, Westminster, etc while on the river. There used to be a similar thing in Liverpool called "The Yellow Duckmarine", but that company went bust.

You did really well. I haven't driven/ridden in central London for a while but used to quite enjoy it when I did. At least most drivers there know where they want to go and if you are decisive, they'll let you do what you need to. Dithering is where the devil catches you. On motorways, it's keep left unless passing but also, don't weave in and out of lanes. If there's that much stuff in the left lane, then stay in the next available one until there's a clear space. Yes, you can get a ticket for lane hogging, but you have to be really, really bad to get pulled for that. There's always people hogging the middle lane - in fact most motorways seem to function on 2 lanes because of middle lane hogging, but make no mistake, you will be hated if you do it. Be just as careful about passing on the left - it's not illegal as such (on motorways), but it's potentially risky, and you can get pulled for it if a copper thinks it's a dodgy move. It's not a legal requirement to signal lane changes but it's a good idea if there's anyone who would need to know what you're doing. Watch out for foreign trucks (look at the licence plates) and don't hang about alongside them, they're usually left hand drive.

when travelling abroad - just hire a local car and make sure that the driver is in the middle of the road and the passenger kerbside. That makes road positioning easy

Hope the road trip goes well. Don't worry about roundabouts - you'll be fine, but just remember when you approach one, if there's someone already on it and (obviously) coming from the right - to give way or let them pass by before going onto the roundabout. Other than on the motorways (freeways/expressways), once you're out of London, the roads are less congested. You'll love the openness of the Scottish Highlands if you're heading up there!

the little cupboard symbol on your washer dryer is for allowing the clothes to be dried fully so you can just put them away, this only works on some of the programmed settings, also the temperature gauge is set really low on your machine so it wont get hot enough anyhow, its hard to tell but it looks like you have the machine on programme 3 or 2 that should have worked if the temp was set higher

You did a great job! I’m a Londoner since birth. I’ve driven in many countries, the US multiple times, but driving in central london is my least favourite driving experience (except possibly Boston during ‘the big dig’). Massive respect 🤟🏻

There is one really weird thing on the road outside of London….the Magic Roundabout which is in Swindon if memory serves it consists of multiple roundabouts in one big constellation type roundabout…..that one is the stuff of legends, even for U.K. people.

I thankfully didn't drive in London. I started my drive leaving Edinburgh and then in Ireland. Next long trip to England, I will definitely be driving. The parking is the most difficult, especially at hotels.

"Mind The Gap" is a warning given out on the trains meaning when you step off the train be careful of the gap between the train and the platform. Its become a marketable phrase now though like the "Keep Calm and Carry On" stuff, which was a poster that barely got used during WW2, and got found many years later and turned into a franchise of merchandise.

Your channel came up on my feed for the first time today. The wife and I got back from our first trip to England three weeks ago and are already planning our next. We would love to drive but are honestly afraid we would be a public nuisance to the great people of England with our American driving skills. Cheers for having the nerve to try, especially in London.

Lots of Londoners wouldn't care to drive in the middle of town at peak times so well done. However, an Italian colleague once observed that she learned to drive as a teen in the middle of Rome after school, so any other city centre seems quite tame after that!

Some older historical cities, such as Oxford, York, Bath etc have park & ride schemes, so unless unless you have a hotel with a car park, it's often best to use those. Parking can be bad in those cities, and Oxford even seems to go out of its way to be awkward. Oh, random tip. If you do drive to Oxford, take a quick detour to "The Headington Shark" on New High Street on the east side of the city. It's a normal residential street, other than one house, where a giant shark is crashing through the roof.

Did I mention before about your having a trip over to Milton Keynes?. There, they don't have any intersections - only roundabouts, and some roundabouts are just a few yards from another!!!
