guys, some considerations. Brazil is half the size of a continent. Many things that were shown are region specific. Come in the summer, the winter here is very cold. mosquitoes are not a serious problem if you are in big cities. Mosquitoes are a problem in the Amazon or in the Pantanal regions of Brazil. Not all of Brazil. Don't worry about places you shouldn't go. It's a western country, nothing to be surprised about. Avoiding violence and danger depends more on common sense, as is done anywhere in the world. Eat everything. There is nothing out of the ordinary for a western country. The food here is certainly better and healthier than where you were born.

I totally understand the apprehension people might have coming to Brazil, I feel the same when I see bad things about other countries too. The crime here really comes from inequality and even with all the reasons for Brazilians to be distrustful and closed off, the incredible thing is that we are the complete opposite! We're friendly and helpful to each other, what kinda makes up for it. So many brazilians will stop you to say "oh be careful with your things here" or "don't use your phone on the street", not because you'll get stolen as soon as you get on the street but because foreigners use to be kinda naive (which is totally understandable for someone visiting a country for the first time, you don't know the implicit rules and customs, right?) I hope you come to visit Brazil soon ^^ you'll get surprise with how many people will make effort to communicate with you and make sure you have a good time 🇧🇷

#1 good side of having electric showers is endless hot showers as you never run out of it. The bad side is, the hotter the water, the less pressure. #2 We flush our toilet paper down the toilet no problem at home. It actuallyt depends on each state sewage treatment systems and each specific building pipes.

In crime, is very similar to USA. There are some places super safe and some dangerous ones, but is not nearly as much as media make it looks like. The problem is that most people that come to Brazil go to Rio city only. Even brazilians have some prejudice and fear of the city Rio, is a truly beautiful city, but does have some problems. Nothing that will cause you problem if you just be smart.

There are many different countries in one here. Culture wise, food wise. You should visit all the regions in order to say you really know Brasil. Your perception say in São Paulo is going to be different in Manaus, in Curitiba, in Salvador…

Most brazilians don't know english but they will try to help you anyway. We are very friendly, helpful and spontaneous. If you know a bit of portuguese a bunch of people will talk with you and you will make many friends easily. Like, is normal you just meet someone and that person invite you to their home to drink coffe or beer and eat something, maybe even a nap or a out of no where spontaneous small party haha. Some places more than others. Rio is very used to tourists so not so much there, São Paulo is very fast and full of tourist like NY, so there not so much either. But other places will.

if you do want to come to brazil, make some friends here and you'll really not have to worry about crime and stuff. anyone from rio de janeiro is used to the stuff and can get you around safely. that said, there are many places that are just genuinely fine; if you're visiting nature or places away from the busy capitals people are very welcoming and you'll feel at home. if you do want to see a more urban life without the worries of crime, the southern states are safer, but also not too interesting lmao. do visit the northeastern region if you want to see the best beaches in the world and some of the best people in the country, though.

The issue with toilet paper is no longer generalized. In many areas with modern sewage infrastructure and a wide availability of flushable toilet papers, it is okay to flush it. However, always verify the local norms.

Drinking age in Brasil is 18yo, but in the streets in small places is common(but not legal, but nobody cares) to sell for older teens. My parents used to ask me to buy drinks for them in trips when I was a child and never I was asked for id or for someone older to be with me. Drinking here is similar to Europe, is not a big deal and unlike USA rarely people will get super drunk like movies from USA, I think because drinking is not taboo, so people will drink just to chill and not to get super drunk. But drinking and driving is very illegal here. Police will stop you and ask to test your breath on a machine if they think you are drunk.
