@ZackTanTYZ

1upmydog Normally your suppose to eat durian immediately after directly taken it from the fruit itself, and not pack it in plastic packages, and from what I know, durian was suppose to taste like sweet meat. it will give off a very strong sour smell and taste overtime that even asians would not like, it will also become more dry and bland when kept in sealed packages for too long, making it tasteless or bad tasting with the smell, and what's more trapping all that smell in the sealed plastic would make it even worse. but it's one of the few ways to transport durian all the way to america since the fruit is so spiky. I doubt americans in america would be able to enjoy durian properly, heck even in singapore too, since the fruits are also imported and package sealed.
@Sakibou
9 жыл бұрын
Zack Tan Durian can be purchased here (in the U.S.) whole, from specialty markets. I froze it before eating it and it didn't smell bad to me...But, it didn't sit out long enough to completely thaw. It basically tasted like mushy sweet onions. ._. Not bad, honestly.
@1upmydog
9 жыл бұрын
Zack Tan thanks for the tip, i hope i can try it like that someday.
@ZackTanTYZ
9 жыл бұрын
Sakibou Yeah, but even if there are such markets in america, I don't think it can easily found or easily known by people in general. Besides, durians don't typically grow on western areas, transporting durians whole may make it's fruits fresher, but it's sour smell will still be quite strong then and it's not really productive and convenient in many ways. Therefore, a lot of the markets choose to pack the fruits in packages anyway. Also freezing it would make it's fruit quite soft and bland even if it can take away the smell but it will taste mushy sweet as you said instead of being chewy like sweet meat. -_-

vivace reuben Durian is not a typical Chinese-only thing buddy. Many Asian countries have durian as a fruit and Thailand and Malaysia is EVEN MORE FAMOUS for Durian than China. I can understand that because of that strong smell, people either love or hate it with occasionally exception. But it is THE SAME everywhere even in China and I believe in many other Asian cultures as well. My dad is a 100% Chinese and yet he hates it but my mom and I just love it. CAN I ASK YOU AN HONOUR NOT TO HASTILY GENERALISE EATING HABITS BEFORE U REALLY GET TO KNOW CHINESE, and can I ask you an honour really not to phrase your sentence in this kind of unpleasant, ambiguous way? Oh please, I know you guys have loads of criticisms on China and while I only partially agree, I could still understand why you would think that and really respect your opinions. But dude, can we just not simply hate China for everything even for a harmless, not-even-really-major habit? It's down to personal preference really in this case rather than nationalities, I am afraid. Like I really can't get the point of eating hamburgers that often now but yet I can accept it. If you really don't like it, just don't eat it, no one will really say anything about that. BUT SIMPLY BECAUSE U DON'T LIKE IT DOESN'T MEAN IT IS NOT GOOD as the word "good" is very subjective. I love Chinese food a lot as well as some other Asian food. If you think I am overreacting, I am sorry. But I really hate people when they criticise my country for nonsense, where I think great progress has been made and is still being made.

Its funny how the foreign people on here (Foreign from the US) are complaining about how American's express their distaste for some of their exotic foods, like they don't do the same thing when they taste our food here in America. Every country has food that other countries find to be weird or gross. Y'all insult us, call us fat and talk about our food but we can't do it to your food? And it's not even like we asking for respect for our food, because we don't care. But if you want respect you need to act like y'all deserve it. And Fried Butter is not an exotic food, its disgusting and a lot of us here in America would agree. Because we not ignorant enough to act like all of our food is amazing and shouldn't be criticized.

JrodLuvn Yes it has different menu, but the principle is still the same, too much salt and too much sugar, and they still served the same burger in majority of the world (Surprised!). And I lived outside of the US, so I know what people in my country like. South East Asian people tend to have sweet and spicy food while the Indian and middle east prefer sour (not salt), and the one on the Northern tend to like more bitter and sweet with a little bit of sour. And I've heard LOTS of people telling me McDonalds patty taste like meat that's been fried with salt, not oil.

bats have wings and are known immune carriers of many horrible diseases. FYI Also snakes are a poor source of nutrition just saying, only the testicals and kidneys are of any use. Also I hear that there are accute forms of malnutrition that can occur if you exclusively eat caribou. Apparently these deer like animals have an odd diet and survive just barely on a day by day basis and have very low body fat, producing very lean meat, so lean in fact that you could starve (suffer malnutrition) from eating caribou with no other fat in your diet. As an exmaple 100 gram steak(beef) is about 190 calories and 6.6g of fat 100g of caribou is only about 120 calories and only 3g of fat.

Durian is one of my favorite Asian foods. The smell is actually very very VERY pungent for those who are not used to it,, but it is very tasty because the pulp is very creamy and sweet. You can eat and drink it.

I so appreciate and respect Eugene's stance on cultural respect. A lot of people go into these things and mock other cultures foods and I think it's really cool how he always makes note that these are cultural foods that should be respected.

When I ate meat, I LOVED chicken feet, but the idea of it being prepared in a way that makes it floppy makes me wanna die. They should be crispy!!

Katie Adams to be honest, Balut doesn't look as bad as it does in the video. i dunno why everytime i watch a documentary or whatever showing balut, the duck embryo part always look raw and disgusting but when you go to Asia and buy one most embryos are either too small to be noticed even or well cooked. so don't trust the video. they're exaggerating things.
