How crazy, I can't sleep. It's 0430 and this comes up while I'm KZitem watching. I'm doing a Total Wine and SPECS order in Dallas. There's Irish and Scotch in my order. I watched Stacie's 4 Leaf Whiskey's livestream and asked about Powers. Then I caught your livestream. And here we are. I remember Josh referring to chugging water and Irish Car Bombs. Love you two.

Good pot distilled & single malt Irish whiskey is so good and SO underrated. For me, I also have Yellow Spot as my favourite. 12 year age stated, single pot distilled, un-chill filtered and matured the entire 12 years in ex bourbon, Malaga & Sherry casks then “married” together and bottled 👍🏻

I appreciate when whiskey tubers venture outside of their typical whiskey wheelhouse. I think you should do a Scotch flight in the future. In my opinion, the Spot core range is great, but because it is a semi-NDP for Mitchell & Son, there is a premium cost over the Powers and Redbreast core range that Irish Distillers also produce. Because of this, I generally have Powers John's Lane (12 years old) and Redbreast 12 Cask Strength on hand instead of Yellow Spot and Blue Spot. In my area, it saves me about $90 for the alternative 2 bottles. Keep up the great work.

John’s Lane is one we want to get on hands on for sure, as well as other Redbreast offerings. We did a peated Scotch flight but a non-peated flight is definitely happening as well. Cheers Jordan!

Happy Birthday Erin! I also am a real fan of the Red Breast 12, either the standard and cask proofs. Malted and unmalted barley, ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry finishing is a really nice, approachable pour. The sherry makes this different from the norm of Irish offerings. Bushmill,s Black is also bourbon & sherry but you can taste and feel the adolescence. As you put it, a little more pointy.

The Powers John’s Lane is another tasty Irish dram. Also 12 year age stated, un-chill filtered & single pot distilled. I can’t find it on the label, but it is matured in ex-bourbon & ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. I’ll get you a sample 👍🏻

I always have a bottle of RB12 and RB12 CS in my cabinet. I also love Yellow Spot. To me, they're to very different experiences. Yellow Spot is "crushable" (but too expensive to drink the way you want to). The RB12 CS is the perfect balance of flavor, punch, and price point 🥃

It was such a good pour. I now have several bottles of Irish whiskeys in my arsenal. 👍 cheers!

I have really been enjoying Irish whisky lately, I feel like I prefer it over Scotch. Don't ignore the Jameson Stout Cask, it's incredibly easy to drink and is a bargain, kinda like WT101 in the bourbon world. I haven't had any of the ones you are having here. Some of the really good ones that I've had are, Dingle Batch #4, Lambay Cognac Cask, and West Cork Barrel Proof. The Dingle is absolutely amazing. If you like peated at all, Connemara Cask Strength Peated Irish Whisky is really good. Happy birthday Erin, and cheers to you both.

Coming mostly from a bourbon background I think Irish whiskey can tend to be alot lighter and nuanced that's why I gravitate to the Redbreast 12. Redbreast has a more richer buttery bake goods flavor than the "Spot" line up that's more fruity and crisp and clean. I also feel like the value of the Redbreast is a better bang for the buck. Great video! Won't be able to catch the live stream but I'll watch the replay for sure! Cheers 🥃.

As a primarily bourbon drinker, Irish whiskey (single pot still, more specifically) is such a strong second place contender, that the only reason I don't like it more than bourbon is because there just isn't as much of it. If I could walk into stores and have the same single pot still Irish whiskey selection as even rye whiskey, it'd probably be my favorite category.

I don't have a lot of experience with Irish whiskey; Jameson, Bushmill, Tullamore Dew. I prefer Jameson out of those. Scotch, I have even less experience with because Johnny Walker Black gives me a band-aid taste, and Chivas just makes me cringe. I'd be interested in some Irish or Scotch reccomendations that might appeal to a Bourbon lover.
@stuffandwhiskey
2 жыл бұрын
As our experience there is pretty limited, we wouldn't feel totally comfortable making a video in that realm from any point of authority, but maybe that's exactly why we should. For Irish we find that we really enjoy Green Spot and Redbreast 12 as starters but would definitely recommend finding a pour at a bar before dropping the coin on a bottle. In much the same vein, Glenlivet 12 and Macallan 12 double oak are usually safe bets that we enjoy a lot as well but we'd steer you toward a bar there too. It's so difficult to ask someone to spend $50-60+ on a bottle if they've not had it before, especially if it's from a totally different category of whiskey like Irish and Scotch for a bourbon drinker.
