For the British asking why everyone is making them sound posh; in the U.S. we sort of have this idea of England (yes, I'm aware England is only one country in Britain, but these are English accents that people are doing) as being upper crust. Probably from the TV shows/movies/books we watch and read (ahem, Downton Abbey and Agatha Christie). I usually think of England in terms of immaculate lawns, elegant buildings, going go the theatre, and, of course, posh accents. Despite this is not reality for 95% of the population, it's like (as others have said) thinking of Americans as cowboys or valley girls. I think silly, harmless things like the above examples that people throughout the world sometimes equate with other countries can be quite funny and charming.

Happy Kid if America was so powerful and great they should have fought earlier like Britain, France and other ally countries did. We were losing thousands of countries while you were all fine in your own country until pearl harbour. And if you never did fight Nazi Germany would have conquered Europe, then Africa, Asia and Oceania and had enough power to attack America and win so you would be Nazi Germany too. I'm not trying to start an argument, just my opinion.

+Mia CW Northern is "Northern England". Anywhere between Derby and Scotland. Accents include: Scouse, Manc, Geordie, Yorkshire to name but a few. Those accents can also be broken down even further. Accents tend to be distinct to a 10-30 mile area. Northern UK would be Scotland but again they have many different accents. Broadly speaking the Northern stereotype is crude, fighty, working class, less educated.

CuteCandee A lot of English people slaughter us for even attempting the accent. I think I do a solid accent, but I probably sound posh. I wonder if Brits would know that I'm an imposter. Lol
