Grew up watching the bbc2 double bills on Saturday nights. At that point to me they were all Hammer Horrors. Likewise was only when I started collection of dvd that I realised. Tigon etc. indeed one of my fave Hammer films was Beyond the grave lol.

I've only seen a couple of Amicus's films, but they've all been pretty good. Dr. Terror's House of Horrors, The House That Dripped Blood and The Beast Must Die are the top dogs of their output of work. Their Anthology (Portmanteau as you called them) films were a big key to their success in the long run as it allowed multiple smaller tales that fit either a common theme or an arc story. Italy was the king of the Tragicomedy Anthology film while Amicus was the king of the Horror Anthology film. What I really liked about them was that they gave Peter Cushing much more interesting roles when it came to the Horror genre, not that Hammer did bad with what they gave him, but I always felt like they treated Cushing with a lot more respect than Hammer did, especially after the Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed debacle. Even Christopher Lee got the better roles more often from Amicus than Hammer, I often think Lee's best film The Devil Rides Out only got made cause Hammer was afraid he'd lawyer up to get out of his contract with them. Hammer may have had the license on the Univeral Monsters, but Amicus told the much better original stories. Take care my friend, hope you and the Debs are well, and speak to you soon.
@MondoChelloveckMovies

Yeah totally agree Nash 🤩🤩👍👍 Amicus had some amazing films mate!! And on reflection more meaty roles for Lee & Cushing 🤔🤩👍 you could see Lee wasn't happy with Hammer for most part as he didn't have the best experiences with them, same as Cushing!! If I was Hammer I would have treat them like royalty, which is what they were!! 🤩🤩👌👌 thanks Nash, yeah doing well mate, hope you are well too 😁😁👍👍

Amicus are an extremely underrated British studio when it came to horror. I think Amicus far better horror films than Hammer. Hammer did really good movies when they did the classic monsters, or the Devil Rides Out, & Quatermass but the rest were hit and miss especially towards the end of the 60s where the quality dipped, Amicus were almost consistent with their output.
