DIPG is the most aggressive, most difficult to treat cancer. It's an absolutely devastating disease and unfortunately there is currently no effective therapy.
However, the Children's Cancer Institute recently organised a protocol where parents may donate a child's tumour after they have passed. For the first time, scientists were able to actually grow these cells in the lab, and have had the opportunity to screen thousands of drugs. Although the majority of these were ineffective, several lead compounds are showing promise in laboratory experiments and others are involved in clinical trials.
