This tape deck is an old friend-used,maintained,repaired these machines at the VOA. Has to be one of the best tape machines made. VOA had 300,350,3200,440,ATR 100. Did all of those. Also 600.

Hi, thank you for your nice comment, and sorry for the silly question, but what the meaning of VOA? is it a studio ?

@@ilfafioccaro417 It is the Voice of America -a govt broadcasting organization that has 38 language services that broadcasts all over the world. Information about the USA,news, and music programs. The VOA has like 38 broadcast studios and many production studios-forget how many. I now work at a remaining short wave transmitter site in Greenville, NC that can broadcast to anywhere in the world. At present broadcasts to Cuba as Radio Marti. The tape machines are gone-they are all digital now was reported their analog tape machines were surpluses-newer ones went to the Library of Congress. They archive material in analog form lasts longer and can always be played back and recorded more easily than digital.

haven’t seen one of these on youtube in a while!! restoring mine. it’s gonna have a 351 or 403c preamp in it. i find that the original bathtub electronics are noisy

In my case I don’t think the original tubes are really noisy… the motor at 7,5 ips is a bit noisy but probably because I power it at 50hz instead of 60hz…

@@ilfafioccaro417 very interesting! i’m currently restoring mine, it was a 1”7 track machine so far i’ve put 1/4” full track mono heads. however i’m having trouble with the capstan. the previous owner wired it incorrectly and it’s wires are different colors to what the manual states.

@@FMR_317 Mine also had mono amplifier and the playback head stereo two tracks while the recording one was still mono… I guess this kind of gears were deeply modified during the years, partly because professional needs an often for amateur

@@ilfafioccaro417 mine i’ve wired a circuit to that when the 7.5 and 15ips tape speed selector eq is set shorted (7.5ips). it engages a 4 pole relay so that it can control multiple preamp units EQ at once. so right now it’s a mono but when i want to get to stereo or 3 track it wouldn’t be a problem! just a simple step down transformer, full bridge rectifier, regulator, relay, switches and a indicator light
