@@DLxxx BS. front story to cover themselves. that was the original reason they didn't want to pick it up, but it was doing fine demographically and also above the target demo. the most reasonable version of this they came out with was actually the inverse, it wasn't that casuals can't get into it, it was that since it isn't disconnected episodic style episodes, they couldn't just randomly play episodes out of order, and would actually need to care about how they air it. but in reality, talk of cancellation didn't start until after the story started leaning in that direction, and after getting notice of cancellation the first episode of the final season tripled down on it with overt references and Luz' mom wearing a Rainbow LGBTQ+ heart badge/pin/patch. they clearly said "If we're getting canned anyway, UNLEASH THE GAY!!!" that seems like a move you pull as a form of almost malicious compliance. regardless of their excuse, Owl House was cancelled because RAINBOWS. and disney immediately regretted it, realized they killed a golden goose, and admitted so. that admission of course did not come with any rescinding of cancellation, picking up of new season or spinoff series etc., because again, RAINBOWS.

@@3nowStorm But Amphibia's 3rd season was partly compromised after that moment though. Like, yeah, they still GOT a third season, but their vision was distorted by having to meet a comedy mandate (as well as treading carefully with future fight scenes). It's one of the reasons people had issues with the tone and pacing after that point. That said, in hindsight, I do agree that the LGBT representation definitely contributed to Owl House's cancelation for sure. But based on Dana's reassurance (since I'm almost positive she clarified the subject on Twitter at one point), I think the reality of the situation is a bit more complicated. It wouldn't surprise me if multiple factors influenced the series getting canned (for example, if Amphibia was forced to lean into humor as a result of getting too serious, then it wouldn't shock me if the Owl House's comparatively lower emphasis on humor, combined with it being more serialized, were things the executives considered).

15:10 I love this part. Sasha realizes the true weight of her actions and how much she affected Anne, she lets herself wallow in her sadness, then she picks herself up and makes a commitment to being a better person. She doesn’t spend the whole time feeling terrible about herself, after she confronts what she was dreading to confront she’s able to make progress. It’s a realistic display of how change is made and makes me love Sasha even more.

3:33 is _big,_ and seeing it here with a fresh pair of eyes is great. They were running for their lives a second ago, but what Grime says stops her in her tracks. We learn later in the Christmas special that her parents are separated. Upset to have lost a fight? Or upset that things will never be the same again? "You don't know what you're talking about," she says. Not because it's a bad read, but because it hit too close to home. Grime must low-key remind her of her off-screen dad.
@a-s-greig
Жыл бұрын
That reminds me of the other thing I can _juuuust_ barely read when it comes to Sasha. She'll say what she needs to get her way, but there are genuine moments in the mix, too. And when processing information, the pupil size and motion are the tip-off. Falling from the tower, she does that looks off to the left for a second for an inner question or gut check. But when Grime calls her out? No motion. It's an "aw crud" moment, like when Andrias gives away Marcy's secret. A fear response, which, again, I gotta say that General Yunnan and her tree-slashing blades were after them. If I missed the mark here, whatever it was hit her just as deep.

@@Sonichero151 There is implication that Sasha's parents were separated or divorced (separate letters were sent to Mr and Mrs Waybright when Anne came back home). That kind of home situation might lead to a kid thinking they're the cause of the split, or, if the kid is bounced between homes, they might feel a sense of instability or loss of control of their life. If Sasha felt a similar sense of weakness then (1) her drive to succeed could be in part to feel powerful and successful in school when she couldn't at home and (2) she focused so much on keeping her connection to (and a measure of control over) Anne and Marcy because they were her emotional rock to lean on. She would conquer a group of toads from another dimension just to force the girls back into her life because to her they were all she had.
