@@NoTraceOfSenseI’m pretty sure any section of this route that is 110mph is in fact an Amtrak owned section. The entry into Chicago is certainly freight owned but I believe this short section is owned by Amtrak

Trains going through this area Dowagiac Mi at 110 mph. I believe a few do still stop there. Although most don’t. Unfortunately I watched a TV news report about month ago a elderly gentleman walking slow across one of the crossings in this Michigan town was killed by one of these high speed trains. Very sad

Nice! It's goal of mine to ride the Pacific Surfliner embarking from Union Station in San Diego to Los Angeles, there transfer to the Southwest Chief, ride to Chicago, there transfer to the Pere Marquette, ride to Holland, MI, to disembark there and be picked up by family. Then in succeeding years to alternate into this trip the Texas Eagle, City of New Orleans, Empire Builder, Sunset Limited, California Zephyr.

@thomasrottmann5578

The train appears to be much slower in the video than it is in fact. Maybe an effect caused by the wide angle lens? Just a rough estimate: One locomotive plus five coaches have roughly 150m length and it takes the train roughly 3 seconds to pass a single point in the video. 150m/3s = 50m/s = 180km/h = 113mph. This is far from being an exact measurement but the rough estimate demonstrates the train being much closer to 110mph than to just 50mph. Regards from beyond the pond! 🙂
