It's officially time to release this video, as the final Amtrak Pacific Surfliner F59PHI has been retired from service. March 1st, 2019 marked the final F59 (#458) being shipped out on Amtrak #4, for new service in Chicago.
Serving the Pacific Surfliner route for just over 20 years, the EMD F59PHI locomotives have transported millions of passengers along the 350 mile corridor between San Diego and San Luis Obispo.
All Surfliner F59's are featured in this compilation: 450-464. Majority of the clips are from the final times each locomotive has made a run on the Surfline in the past year. Some never before seen footage from the Pacific Northwest shot this past Summer is also seen, featuring a unique look at AMTK #463 on the Cascades service.
The replacement locomotive for the Pacific Surfliner service is the SC-44 Charger locomotive, built by Siemens Mobility in Sacramento. While technology and mechanics need to be refreshed, there's still a value growing up with these F59's. All that will remain will be the videos and memories that we've all captured.
Thanks for the memories! 1998-2019.
