Nice video, keep up the good work. Advice from an old man, if you think your travels will take you into wet areas carry a spare pair of moccasins in your haversack. I read somewhere the Native Americans carried an extra pair of moccasins, thought that's not a bad idea and most of the time I have an extra pair of center seams.

Thank you for the tips. I really should carry an extra pair all the time although I usually only do on overnight trips

You’re welcome. Yes I live close to a large and semi secluded state forest. It can be full of ticks and mosquitoes in the summer though

@@nathanjeffery3059 The ticks and mosquitos are horrible. We are waiting for them to set in here in Indiana. Hoping to get out some more before they arrive.

Nathan, Your point about the Era for the shot spout has me thinking I better do some research. My father had a horn with the English style on it. I've had the Irish style that detaches from its leather flask for about 40 years. Always assumed it was period. Maybe not?

Young man, your wadding ain't a bees nest it's a hornets nest LOL. Nice video. I'm getting out like that when it cools down. It's been 80F by 8am all week. Is your smooth bore a Fusil? Who made it?

Yeah I know whatever… yes it’s a fusil. Not sure on the maker. Bought it from a buddy who bought it from a rendezvous. I’m in the process of making my own fusil right now

Hope you are doing well Nathan. Thank you for the video. You had a beautiful day to be out. On the feather trick , I read some where that this is some what of a safety practice too. The feather in the flash hole would allow less oxygen in the barrel. This would be important in case you had a hot ember left. Would not be a nice surprise when you added fresh powder. Either way not a bad practice when you have the time to do so. Thanks again! May God bless you and your family.

Thanks for sharing that. I also read somewhere that some camps would stick a feather in to let people know the barrel was loaded.

The feather had noth9ng to do with oxygen. Nothing. It kept moisture out of the main charge from a loaded gun and served to show people the gun was loaded. Gunpowder makes its own oxygen. It can burn in a vacuum.
