Hey actor! I have bad news. Just reading SparkNotes or LitCharts isn’t enough when it comes to nailing your Shakespeare monologue. The good news is that I created a new resource to help you feel super duper clear about what everything means, even if you’re a complete beginner. Go here: shakespearewithsarah.com/translate/

I am definitely using this for my high school monologue, I have been acting for three years and this helped a bunch. Thank you!

Oooh that's great! Much more exciting than doing Helena from Midsummers, which most people do in high school.

Thanks again Sarah. Your videos are great; they make me realize how much I gloss over reading through a play.

Thanks Mark. That's what I love about Shakespeare. I find more each time I revisit the plays.

All of my children have Shakespeare references in their names. Goneril--the worst Shakespeare name you could give a child, even if you can develop sympathy for her in the beginning! I like the method of exploring the background of the characters in this play: Goneril definitely needs more layers than a flat villain. (Also, I love the RSC version! Natalie Simpson is lovely.)

Yes! I was just watching your Cordelia recite one of my favourite poems. It's just a bit adorable. Natalie Simpson was a pretty good Cordelia as well. I enjoyed her as Ophelia too. Actually I cut out a section of this video where I mentioned that I did NOT enjoy the version with Jonathan Pryce. I think he's a great actor but the production just didn't do it for me. I didn't love the directing and I really hated the design. It's a tough play to do justice.
