Hey actor! If you’re still hunting for the perfect fit monologue, I’ve put together a collection of my favourite Shakespeare monologues sorted by casting type and general vibe. Makes it easy to pick one you love and another one to contrast. You can find it here: shakespearewithsarah.com/shakespeare-collection/

This was really great timing. I’ve been getting ready for auditions and I wanted something that wasn’t too overdone, but also not too difficult (as I’m still a Shakespeare beginner), and I really liked this one. Thank you for making these videos. I really enjoy how you explain each line, it’s easy to follow and very helpful!

Thank you, love this monologue, you explained it beautifully! Your videos have helped me so much, I can't even tell you! Do you think you'll be able to do Rosalind from As You Like It, 'He was to imagine me...'? It would mean a lot! Thanks for everything, you're a life saver! xx

Yes! I’ve actually recorded this already but I actually forgot about it over Christmas 🤦🏼♀️ I will try to edit and upload it this week. Can I ask why you’re doing this one? Is it for an exam?

@@ShakespearewithSarah Thank you so much! It’s actually for my auditions for drama schools! I’m doing Isabella from Measure For Measure and Rosalind from As You Like It!

Ok cool. You might have given this some thought already but I always just advise people to be careful when selecting a monologue that’s in prose rather than verse, because sometimes drama schools are not keen on that, even if they don’t state it in the audition brief. But you might be fine since you’re doing Isabella as well. As long as they don’t specify ‘blank verse’.

@@ShakespearewithSarah Oh I see, I had no idea that drama schools may not be keen on this. Why do they not particularly like that?
@ShakespearewithSarah

I think the main reason is that verse speaking has its own techniques that don’t apply to prose, and they want to see what you can do with the verse. It’s a bit of a funny one because it will depend a bit on the panel and the school. Some won’t care and some will. If you’re really keen on that one, you could email the school(a) your applying for and just check if they’re ok with monologues in prose. If they haven’t specified ‘blank verse’ in the audition info then I think it’s a fair question.

Do you think that this is a good monologue for actors that are not very expert in Shakespeare? I am trying to find the right monologue for drama school and I am afraid of finding one that is not suited for a beginner
