When I get the moneys I'm definitely ordering a ProTASVR twin kit for my Oddysey+, I've been wanting to get into something like Elite Dangerous for a long time and can't play with mouse+Keyboard, or even an XBox one controller, regardless of playing desktop or VR mode. I would hope games add native support for this, to where you can toggle it to expect the controllers to be docked in the right scenarios, and not require you to grab the ingame sticks or fiddle with desktop equivalent controls; that would make the ProTASVR joysticks infinitely more immersive. Also, two last words. Atari. Emulation. 'nuff said,

Sadly you're out of luck when it comes to E:D. Even if Elite supported VR controllers, it's simply not possible to replace a real HOTAS with one for what E:D needs. My X36 flight stick has _six_ buttons, and _two_ 8-way POV hat switches, and I _still_ have to set up chords and multi-function button assignments to cover what I need it to do in Elite. (Then there's the throttle, which in my case has a whole bank of switches for common ship functions...and that's before we even get to the stuff that I control via voice recognition!) It works fine for NMS because that's just a game, with a simplified control scheme. _Elite: Dangerous_ is a _simulation,_ and it really shows.

Thanks for this, I'm tempted to try it out with VTOL VR, Aircar etc because they don't support HOTAS setups unlike DCS , ED etc. The main things I miss on a virtual HOTAS game are both precision and the ability to rest your hands, essential on a sim. I feel 'built for VR' stuff with virtual cockpit is of course the future, so this kind of hardware will just get more and more useful. As a pure VR experience, I'm enjoying VTOL VR more than DCS

Virtual Reality Oasis it does have HOTAS support. However I hear there are so many ship functions you have to memorize a convoluted layout to use them all. I’ve got an experimental VR overlay that gives holographic buttons for ship functions and a virtual HOTAS, throttle, and 6DOF controller. This hardware looks like it could pair nicely with my overlay and Elite Dangerous.

Since you're not plugging anything into the PC, you can use two of these no problem. They even have one for sale here: www.protubevr.com/en/accueil/128-protasvr-combo-pre-order.html VR motion controller support is required for this to work. Without a way to use motion controls to interact with virtual vehicle inputs, you can't take advantage of the ProTasVR to make doing so easier.

Great video Mike. I was thinking a while back whilst playing ED vr, how great it would be if someone developed a clip on sensor for hotas and then be able to choose hotas within game and then it would actually display in the game along with the buttons and trigger. This would make training in ED so much easier if the buttons lit up for a specific task when asked rather than fumbling around with the HMD on.
