I think Messi is the greatest player ever. His intelligence on the pitch is insane. He always goes for the right pass, right decision, and it’s just insane his passing execution finesse. Add this to his extraterrestrial dribbling, shooting and positioning and there you have it: a shorty genius machine walking around the pitch substantially increasing the level of any team he plays for.

It's also the reason he has less injuries. He avoids tackles by cleverly choosing the best places to engage defenders. Compare that to Neymar, whom defenders are much more willing to foul.

I searched for this video, because I wanted to know how Messi does it. I believe that Ronaldo is the best striker and Messi the best player that ever existed. It's not about how you put the goal in the net, it how you move the game forward with each of your decision, even if Messi scored half as goals he has now, he'd still be my goat. Refuse to belive he's a human

1. Walking around can be seen as a way to continually update your position every second 2. Messi checks his shoulders even when he is not asking for the ball, in essence he is always reacting to the game (completely immersed) 3. Scanning is done when the game is in a passive state (nothing productive is happening)

No, he don't make an image of the whole pitch... He is just searching for plan b which is passing the ball for goal scoring opportunity if plan A doesn't work, which is dribbling to goal, if both doesn't work, he want the team to keep possession, so he looks for an easy unmarked exit... So basically he is searching the best passing option until the moment he recieves the ball

When last have Messi won any game of significance playing like this and by significant I mean UCL. Haven't they gotten blown out year after year with Messi on the field walking, if any other player on earth dares to walk on the pitch every pundit will call for him to be dropped or sold but because it's Messi walking on the pitch is somehow genius. For every club on earth any player walking on the pitch is seen as a liability to the team not even the great Madrid you see a player walking but for some weird reason it's genius for Messi to walk while his team get blown out 8-2? You guys are serious Messi fans 😂

You are absolutely right. In the modern game of football all players must press to regain possession of the ball. If you are one man down because that man is slacking, it won't work. Furthermore, Messi is not unique at all when it comes to scanning. He is not even close to Xavi who was the king of total scans, and he has half the amount of critical scans as Ødegaard (30% vs 58%). Last season Ligue 1 Messi lost the ball 498 times, the fourth most of all players. In the game against Lyon alone he lost it 26 times. If he really was so intelligent and amazing at scanning then that would never have happened. If he also ran more to give himself more space and distance to defenders, that would also help a lot. So the argument of Messi being so awesome at scanning that he can just stroll around simply does not hold water. Ødegaard both scans and runs the most. Messi simply manages to score goals because of his superior balance, dribbling and goal-scoring ability. Imagine if he hadn't been so lazy!
@Maxsss214

@@iShrieklol messi looses the ball alot because he takes the most risky plays, in psg midfield had no creativity at all, so he had to take risky passes and plays so he lost the possession alot its nothing new , players who takes more risky passes and dribbles tend to loose the ball alot Messi losing the ball at times does not mean he is a bad playmaker. In fact, it often reflects his creative and risk-taking style of play. As a playmaker, Messi constantly tries to break through defenses with difficult dribbles, intricate passes, and bold moves. This naturally comes with a higher chance of losing possession, especially when he's attempting to unlock tightly packed defenses. The key is that Messi's success rate in creating goal-scoring opportunities far outweighs the occasional loss of possession. His playmaking vision, ability to find teammates in key areas, and dribbling skills are unmatched, which is why he's considered one of the greatest playmakers of all time despite the moments when he loses the ball.

Don't Work hard, Work smart. that's how messi plays Football. By Continuously scanning through the pitch, you can see every players's position and decide what you will do next. Every football academy teaches their young player about this skill. You seriously lack of football knowledge kiddo. Please, Keep youself informed before making a stupid comment like this

He lost possession of the ball 26 times against Lyon last year. 4th most during the season overall. Great scanning and awareness! Only ignorant people like yourself don't understand you need to scan more often and better, like Ødegaard and Xavi. And also that constantly moving to give yourself space and time on the ball is crucial. I suggest you start following golf or something.@@ilovefootball4762
