Hopefully I live long enough to witness the first real signs of alien life in the universe. Thank you NASA! ❤️🙏🏽

i remember to have read an old scientifical book about a italian astronomer who actually was the first to see a complex system of rivers on mars, back in 19 century observation. Giovanni Schiaparelli.
@TheStockwell

No offense intended, but that's not correct. He described what he called "canali," meaning channels. That was mistranslated as "canals" and people to this day believe he claimed he was seeing rivers and canals. He never made any such claim. Schiaparelli wrote: "Rather than true channels in a form familiar to us, we must imagine depressions in the soil that are not very deep, extended in a straight direction for thousands of miles, over a width of 100, 200 kilometers and maybe more." Best wishes from Vermont 🍁

it's kinda crazy to think that Mars was once a habitable planet with oceans covering its surface, but then the magnetic field just kinda said "no" and now it's a wasteland

Possibly, especially when one considers that Mars's surface cooled down to habitable conditions before the more massive Earth could. But we won't know until we can send paleontologists to look for the kind of fossil evidence we see from the earliest terrestrial bacteria colonies. It could even be that Mars was the origin of the life which spread out to colonize Earth via impact events in the early solar system, especially the late heavy bombardment period.

That is an awesome question. You could say yes when you consider our only comparison is earth which of course for all we know has always had life in its rivers.

mars's core started cooling down over time which made the magnetic field weaker. as a result solar flares began stripping away the atmosphere which caused the water to either boil away or turn into ice.

@@bettacup8507 It's not fesable to strengthen a magnetic field at a planetary level. It's like a super massive dying battery, and we simply can't produce enough energy to perform the actions needed to recharge it.
