Hey JJ, I’ve got asthma, developed in my 40’s but I also had the predisposition to it. It’s spooky now, but soon hopefully it will be something you easily live with. Most of the time I forget all about it to be honest. I do spray on my arms, it’s too much otherwise, and never overspray, but that’s not some privation to me, it’s just the most enjoyable way. Getting gassed out an having panic attacks over it are no fun after all.

Sorry to hear this, JJ 😢! I had asthma myself as a child (mostly mild asthma) and it occasionally flairs up when the pollen count is high (I’m a hayfever sufferer too and my hayfever offsets my asthma). Where do you stand on the idea that asthma is linked to diet and can be treated with general improvements to one’s health? I’ve a friend who is a medical herbalist and they’re adamant that asthma starts and ends with diet and isn’t merely a respiratory issue. If it helps, I’ve found running outdoors to be a great coping mechanism for asthma. I guess anything that builds lung capacity can also help with asthma. In any case, chin up, my man! Don’t let it get you down x

I’ve actually been exploring diet, it’s a great suggestion! I also make sure I have decent outdoors time every day, weather permitting. Thanks so much for dropping a note, it means a lot!

Sorry to hear about your asthma. I also have asthma. I have learned to wear perfume. I mostly spray my arms and avoid fragrances that I know triggers my asthma (for example Guerlain Vetiver). You will learn what works for you. Don’t give up on the perfume making if that is a passion. You will make it work

I'm sorry to hear that, JJ. On the bright side, you'll still be able to enjoy it in some way. Personally, I spray my forearms and the back of my neck sometimes. I find that the perfume lasts a longer time on my forearms and doesn't make me go as noseblind as easily. I agree with you about overspraying. 3 sprays is pretty much the max I do no matter how "weak" a scent is.

Sorry to hear about your predicament dear JJ, it is certainly heartbreaking to not be able to fully engage with your passion--but sometime limitations lead to new and more exciting solutions! I decanted all of my fragrances into rollers from the time I started collecting, not only to avoid wasting precious juice but because I don’t want to inhale the actual vapor which seems to be different than the “offgassing” of aromas. I don’t feel I’ve compromised anything in my journey but I’m sure the perfume has less sillage and projection which is absolutely fine for me; I wear perfume for my enjoyment and if someone is close enough to be intimate they are getting plenty of scent from me… I wonder if this difference between aroma and vapor would make a difference for you? I trust you’ll find a solution and be able to continue to enjoy the hobby and to continue to enrich us all with your journey.

Over time you'll learn how to live with the condition and wil still be able to enjoy fragrances. Some will trigger it, other not at all. However, we all understand the initial shock due to the impact on what your nexts steps were going. I feel really heartbroken to see you like that. I love your work and many of us will still be here tomorrow and the days after. Big love JJ and see you soon again.

Here for you if you need anything, let me know. 🙏

This is really sad news. I hardly can imagine how much this can impact your life and lifestyle. Health is more important than everything else, so take care of it. You will still be able to enjoy fragrances, but in a different way. You could send start practicing activities which improve your breathing, such as yoga and meditation, or walking in the open (when the weather allows you to). I will gladly continue to follow you and your contents. Remember: that is not the end of your fragrance journey, you just need to experience fragrances in a different way; but they will still be with you. I wish you the best, JJ. Love from Italy.
