I have lived in poverty in my life, but I looked like a rech woman compared to this. When I was in college, I lived severa hours from home. I earned $135 a month and my rent was $125. I qualified for $10 a month food stamps. I would buy a big bag of rice or potatoes and a couple of lbs of hamburger or pork chops which I devided into smaller servings. This had to last me for a month. I worked at the dollar store and toilet paper was $1. My boss took out $. 25 a week to pay for it. But even though I thought this was tough, comparatively seeking, that was just an inconvenience I still had a roof over my head, and all utilities. We do not because these things are not rationed by the government to us. My cuban relatives that have been able to emigrate here tend to talk like this for the first couple months until they realize nobody is keeping track of them. @Rose Mary 39 my comment has nothing to do with metric v imperial measurement. Or that things are sold by weight. It is about the fact that people coming from repressive governments that ration goods tend to obsess about the weight of produce *per*person*, *per*time*. People in free economies don't ordinarily count how many grams or ounces of something each person gets in a month.

Girl, it just doesn't exist (this doesn't mean people don't have them) . Psychiatric llnesses are something of the upper class in the West. When you are worried about your next meal, you toughen up and go find something to eat, you just don't lay in your bed and wait for the food to appear. Even being able to be diagnosed of a mental illness is a luxury and people don't even realise it. For example, eating disorders are something of the West. I laugh at stuck up vegans believing everyone should renounce meat, easy to say when you have the choice.

This is how many people had to eat a hundred years ago before modern refrigeration and transport... you ate what was in season and preserved things for the winter time. It’s a shame... not only that some people in our world need to stretch their food this drastically and then here in America, we are literally eating ourselves to death! Humans aren’t designed to eat meat EVERY meal, EVERY day! It’s also disgusting how much food gets thrown away here and sad that there’s no way to get it to North Koreans and others who desperately need it! I was literally homeless in the states, but could walk around the food court at my local mall and pull half eaten gigantic portions of food from the trash.... STILL WARM! It’s amazing. You can literally be homeless here but have a full belly and be fat! So damn right we should be grateful and try our best to find a respectable charity or any way to help others who are less fortunate than us. I live on a boat now and own my own business, but I’ve never forgotten what being homeless was like and it’s made me much more grateful and empathetic to the plight of others. Some people will never get it. And I have never had to go hungry! I can only imagine!

Yeonmi, I think most people that ask for recipes, are asking mainly for basic things. Like how does one make kimchi or some things like that. In North KKorea you cooked wahst you had or was available at the time you needed to cook. However many westerners do not know some of the basic recipes. I am sure they are not asking complex things, like amount x of salt, pepper etc. Just general ideas on things. For example like what food could be preserved for the winter, and how did you preserve it. (Like drying of vegetables, salting of fish etc) So maybe, you can do some video on general food preparation in/for different seasons. That way curiosity does not kill the cat.

@@firmman4505 its a Stalinist totalitarian state. Has nothing to do with modern “socialism”

@@Word187 Are you nuts? They pride themselves on being a Socialist Pardise. Your dream of what "socialism" should be simply never works in practice. North Korea and all other socialist/communist societies soon discover that without dictatorial powers and extreme force it can't begin to approach their dream.

@Visterie socialism/communism only ever dissolves into tyranny. If you think it doesn't it due to your own personal ignorance and refusal to see the truth.

@@777mantikor Socialism and communism are not the same thing. Socialism and socialist ideas are on a spectrum, for example universal healthcare and college tuition coverage in Europe. You can still own property and get paid/rewarded for your hard work. Communism, however, is on the extreme end of that spectrum, and the reason communism does not work is because people inherently want more for themselves and do not want to be equal to others, and by having a power enforcing people to be equal, that power is by default creating discrepancies between people and creating state-enforced socio-economic classes. Of course, North Korea is not actually a socialist paradise...there is nothing about the way of life there that makes it a paradise, just like putting "democratic" in their country title is a joke.

Yeah that would be interesting. I wonder is there anything positive about North Korea, or anything she likes about it (even tho, i doubt anything could be positive about NK)

Your videos are wonderful. I get so much out of it. I'm a Korean American with North Korean heritage. Keep up the good work.
