For this year's 4th of July long weekend, I have decided to change things up a bit trackside. I have always wanted to try the Bridgeview Bed and Breakfast located next to the spectacular Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg and got the opportunity to do so. Well, I've seen it for myself and have to say it was an awesome experience, and of course, great people I met!
After checking in, while there was still light out there, I headed out to the old Duncannon station (now houses the business Blue Ridge Communications) for a couple of hours. A few trains went through including westbound mixed freight NS 35A with almost an EMD consist (with a high hood GP38-2). I gave myself to 9:30 PM before heading back to Bridgeview but I made one more stop at Cove, PA (automatic signal 116) for eastbound ethanol NS 64K led with the Southern heritage unit on the point.
Train action for the first half of next day wasn't too busy but it was awesome seeing trains going across the long bridge. Mixed freight NS 37Q had to cross the Susquehanna River twice (across this bridge and after getting onto Lurgan Branch) as it departs from Enola Yard and destines for the south. NS 25Z featured a UP in the mix, and NS 17G had one of the ex-UP 90MAC's (one as of now fitted with cab signals to lead on the Pittsburgh Line).
I also spent some time in Port Royal, PA (which I personally think it's a favorite spot) at the automatic 151 signals, and that was when the train action started to pick up, and continues on the next part.
Anyway, awesome so far!
*Note: I'm really really NOT GOOD w/ train symbols. I try to get as many as I can through my scanner or asking other railfans around me (if any).*
