Meteor Crater, 18 miles west of Winslow, Arizona, is one of the most stunning sights in the whole Southeast. The result of a meteor strike about 50,000 years ago, the crater is 560ft deep and has a rim almost 150ft above the plain level, making for a mind-boggling view from the visitor center, which also features the Barringer Space Museum. We stayed at the fab El Posada Hotel in Winslow (and, yes, we "stood on the corner") before visiting the Crater, and it made for a powerful stretch of our "A Year On The Road" RV adventure.
