Loved the video. Thanks. I do have a helpful suggestion for you, however. I'm a woodworker, by trade so use a battery operated drill A LOT. To keep your drill bits from coming out, during use: Hand tighten as tight as you can, then turn the chuck one click in the opposite direction. This will lock your drill's chuck and prevent it from loosening and releasing the bits. I hope that this helps! I know how frustrating stuck bits can be. Even most woodworkers don't know this tip so please share!

Great ideas. I have ,unfortunately , 2 comments. The cane on the inside could have been hidden with another form of cane. They make a rope cane that you glue on as a frame to hide the chipped up edges of the cane . Also when you tucked your skirt around the bottom to hide it I would have wrapped it around the underside and tucked it out of sight . Staples and glue would have been hidden . You can see where you’ve stapled it . Obviously not a big deal to those that bought these items. What a profit !!! The finishing details to me matter when I repurpose something. Those doors where janky to begin with so you did nothing wrong and you fixed it fine. I hope it’s ok to post suggestions on doing it differently. I feel like I’m supposed to say “ great job “ or else I’m not allowed to comment. I enjoy your voice and that you don’t chatter up a storm. Video was very good .

Every two weeks, Katrina and Geoff retell fairy tales from all over the world (using their hilarious down-to-earth style) and then explore some of the themes and history and cultural meanings. They put in a ton of research but really work hard to make everything very accessible - no literature degree required! It's a great way to learn new stories, learn about new cultures, and learn more about where some more familiar stories came from. It makes FANTASTIC listening for doing projects!

The first time I watch a rocker remake with removing the skirt...I thought “Why?”. Wouldn't there be an obvious line of its attachment, not to mention discoloration from the areas exposed to light with the area not having been exposed? While watching I assumed the skirt backing was too thick to fold it over, as you did, which is why it must not be an option. But you just proved it can be done and it looks awesome!!

Leaving the skirt and the welt looks so much better than removing it! These chairs always have a thick napped fabric like velvet or velveteen so it gets crushed where the welt and skirt are attached. There’s going to be an obvious line of demarcation when removed, also a color variation where the under side hasn’t seen any sunlight. The chairs look unfinished when the welt is removed and the line is an eyesore. The way you flipped it is much more visually appealing! It’s so funny, I grew up around these types of chairs, and I always thought they were “grandma chairs”. Too bad it took so long before I could see the potential they had. Bonus, they are super comfortable!

I just found a chair almost identical to this one, except it had legs, not a swivel. I did take off the skirt, but saved the piping trim. I hot glued the trim back on and it covered the staples. I also had to remove the staples and re staple the fabric that was under the skirt because it was very haphazardly stapled. I do like the idea of not removing the skirt, just folding it up, but concerned about bulk. From the angle you photographed the chair at the end the metal plates for the legs were visible. Since this chair was not designed for legs, that may the reason why. I was lucky that there was not any fading of color that other people mentioned. Keep on working and improving your skills.
@KnowCanDo
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anne! That is awesome. I'm glad that you had success with your chair! Yeah, sometimes they are very haphazardly stapled.... results may vary haha! I have just recently learned that the bulk is only an issue if there is too much fabric covering the wood where the screws go in. There is a way to screw in the new leg plates FIRST and then fold, cut, measure and glue/staple the fabric in place perfectly so that the metal doesn't show but I only just thought of that right this second haha. That said, the metal only showed because of the angle I photographed it ... but otherwise you couldn't see it from standing or sitting height. Great feedback, though! I'm always always always learning, and I so appreciate thoughtful comments like yours. Thanks for watching!

May I suggest a way to get the corners a little neater on the chair? Take the middle piece, lay it flat, staple it with staples close to inside. Trim off excess, then fold the others in. Or you might be able to just reduce the bulk by cutting out lining

Adjust the pressure for how much paint comes out. Better coverage. That way it doesn’t come out like a can of spray paint

I'm not great at podcasts, but I do think Kacha and Christina Muscari started one, maybe they just did one or two episodes. But I like Crime Junkies, from what little I know. I do listen to Hoopla, I get it free through my library, which is a lot like audible.

Two tips from an old furniture flipper. Use the beads you removed from back of cabinet doors, to seal the frayed edges of cane. And never EVER cut off chair skirts. If you want to staple them under, keep them intact. These types of chairs always look more balanced with skirts, and at some point this fad of "no skirt" will end. Too many lovely old chairs will be trashed due to lack of skirts. We have an obligation to the planet and to heritage, to ensure the pieces we work on can stay the distance. Don't do anything that can't be undone.

Nicely done! Much like culture clothing, it’s nice to have well finished edges on every part, even the unseen areas. Some hacks to make The piece look good only work from the social aka “good “side. No one wants to see the “bad “ side. It’s kind of tacky. This is much nicer, And leaves a better impression.

Beautiful! I did not look like there were the corner pieces of fabric on the chair. That is the challenge I have discovered. How to get that fabric tucked up and stapled with that corner piece inserted. I have two beautiful Cheryl chairs but the legs are stuck in way far up. So I am trying to figure out how to staple the skirt around the existing legs. I don’t think I could remove the legs without destroying the chair

Thanks so much! Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about, I think. Check out this video, around 4 minutes in I remove the corner piece and staple the other pieces under. It can be done. You go this ! kzitem.info/news/bejne/kZyLv4SKj6J4aGk

I'd like to know more about the paint sprayer. I think it must take FOREVER to clean! 🤢 I have shelves that need painted! Figured I'll paint and throw away roller sponge when finished as I always do when I've painted walls! 😂 Hate paint clean-up and the rollers are never the same.
@KnowCanDo

Awesome, Jules! I will be doing a sprayer tutorial/review soon.... And it's actually not too hard to clean out! You just wash it with soap and water. I use all water based chalkstyle paints which are really easy to clean. They come out of brushes and rollers really easily as well! Thanks for watching :)

RUST-Oleum makes a water-based one step stain and polyurethane in various colors that is low VOC and can be used inside with no respirator. It dries very fast. Look for Varathane ONE STEP STAIN & POLYURETHANE I’ve used this product for years and really like it. It comes in quart size only I think ☀️

Wow, Thanks Bonnie!! I didn't know that. I am always looking for things that are low VOC as I don't love wearing my respirator for hours on end ha. Thank you so so much I will look into this! -Clara
