Guys. Please, be very carefull while doing breathing exercises. I'm a freediver and pretty know what am i talking about. Soldiers use technique that doesn't need much time, but soldiers are prepared for such exercises. They trained it. You, basicly, not. So before starting exercise: 1. Sit down at the place where you can't fall if you pass out. 2. Be sure you haven't locked yourself in the room and there are people around you. 3. NEVER!!! practice ANY breathing techniques in the water (bath, sea, swimming pool, ect.) ALONE. There is only one reason of all there warnings. You can "black out". Black out means passing out because of lack of oxygen in the blood. All antistress breating techniques depend on it. When your brain detects that there are no enough oxygen it says "f*ck everything, just breathe". But if you aren't experienced or trained you can too low oxygen concentration in your blood and black out. Greetings from Belarus and be healthy.

If that would be so easy to just 'not to breath' people would suicide this way all the time... I mean your body wont let you hurt yourself. It is pretty safe and VERY effective excersise 4 seconds breath-in, pause, breath-out, pause... Some sources say it should be even longer like 6 seconds long.

Thanks for the talk. At about 31:57, you say -> "this is where it gets essentially religious-mindfulness" ~ But, mindfulness is not religious, it's about getting more aware of your thoughts, actions, behavior; At about 32:08 , you say->"never been able to get on with meditation because it just involves emptying my mind"~ Differently, practicing meditation helps/aids you to reach/achieve the state mindfulness. 'Emptying the Mind' is a state which is not actively desired, what you try to do is to observe your thought stream without any judgement/attachment, and just observe(and that's it, so it appears simple, but practically challenging to achieve). It's the function of the mind to keep producing thoughts(the so called monkey mind is always chattering), and we have to make an effort to observe thoughts(which are going through the mind), and at the same time, redirect our mind out of that thought stream by focusing/paying attention on a different job/effort which is easily/(may be freely) available to us, say our breathing. So the hack/trick is to move the attention of the mind from the continuous flow of thought stream to another work(say breathing), such that over time, your mind is settled out of the thought patterns it is generating(and as a metaphor, the churn, here the thought-bombs, in the pond is settled and the water becomes lucid), and you are able to think more logically, rationally and wisely(be more mindful), and practice and take this mental state to your regular worldly routine(which is the ultimate goal of meditation).

if you see some man is from mars women are from venus you will see that men and women have diferent stress aleviating hormones so oxytocin is good for women(patting dogs ) , but for men is testosterone ( lifting weights!)
