"In the second part of my winter adventure 'From Kebnekaise to & through Sarek' I take you on a continued journey through the breathtaking wilderness.
⛺️During the trip, I experience unexpected challenges with my tent from HMG, an Ultamid 4P that I winterized. Despite my hopes, the tent turns out not to be as reliable as I had hoped. It surprises me with its lack of ability to withstand the harsh conditions of Sarek's wilderness.
This experience serves as a reminder of the importance of having reliable equipment when venturing into the wilderness and leaving the comforts of civilization behind.
⛷️During the trip, I have the pleasure of once again trying my touring skis for the second year in a row, a pair of Åsnes Nansen. These skis prove to be reliable and stable, giving me confidence as I navigate through the demanding terrain of Sarek. With their agility and stability, I make my way over snowy slopes and through forested valleys with ease.
I am particularly impressed by their performance on the downhill, where they prove to be particularly capable. With the ski's ability to hold the line and give me control at high speeds, I enjoy every adrenaline-filled moment as I make my way down the snow-covered slopes.
Despite the challenges I face with the tent, at least I can rely on my touring skis to carry me safely through the wilderness. Their reliability and performance give me peace of mind and joy during my journey through Sarek.
I start from the Sourva dam and ski past Ähpar, where I take in the magnificent nature and feel alive in its presence. I then continue my journey to the center of Sarek, Skárja, where I stop to reflect on the deep stillness and beauty of the surroundings.
Meeting the same people at the Skárjá emergency hut, a remote place in the middle of the Sarek wilderness, is truly an incredible event. The situation is reinforced by the remote and untouched nature that surrounds the cabin, where it is unusual to even meet other skiers.
This possibility of bumping into two Spaniards you previously met the year before inside Sarek, at this very shelter, heightens the sense of wonder and mystery. It is as if fate has brought you together again in this distant place, where you shared a common experience before.
The meeting at the Skárjá shelter takes an even more cordial turn when one of the Spaniards, whom you met the year before, invites you to share a cup of freshly brewed coffee. The aroma of freshly ground coffee fills the cold air and creates a feeling of warmth and community in the middle of the frost-bitten wilderness.
As the smell of coffee and conversation fills the cabin, you share moments of laughter and togetherness, and you feel deeply grateful for this unexpected hospitality in a remote part of the world. It's a simple gesture that conveys a sense of shared joy and community, deepening the bonds between you as adventurers and nature lovers.
The good taste of the freshly ground coffee becomes a symbol of the friendship created in the meeting between strangers in the wilderness. It's a moment you'll carry with you long after you've left Skárjá and Sarek behind, a moment of simplicity and warmth amidst the grandeur of the wilderness.
After taking in the atmosphere at Skárja, I continue my westward journey along Ruohtesvágge. This stretch is both challenging and enchanting, with dramatic mountain peaks and sparkling snowfields surrounding me. I let myself be swept along by the force of nature as I ski on towards my next goal.
🧗♂️In Ruohtesvágge, in the middle of the wild and peaceful nature, I set up camp and stay for two days to explore the area. During my stay there, I decide to make summit attempts at Kantberget and Gisuris.
On the summit attempt on Kantberget, I experience an unexpected challenge. Due to inadequate equipment, I suddenly find myself on a steep, icy snowfield where I realize that my crampons are no longer giving me the support I need. As I stand there, overwhelmed by the situation, I feel my ice ax become my salvation. With careful steps and with the ice ax as my only security, I make my way back to safer terrain.
It is a reminder of the unpredictability of the wilderness and the importance of respecting its forces. Although I did not reach the top, I am grateful for the lesson I received and for the opportunity to get to know myself and my limits a little better in the quiet wilderness of Ruohtesvágge.
Finally, I get out of Sarek by skiing in the gorge between Mount Ahkka and Sjnjuvtjudis. It's one last challenge before I reach safe ground, but I'm taking it step by step with courage and determination.
By sharing these events and experiences, I hope to give you a sense of the adventurous spirit and overwhelming beauty of exploring Sarek's wilderness. Join me as I continue to explore and learn from the majestic nature that surrounds us."
