(Video involves two trains uncoupling for the yard, if you are interested, keep watching)
Lilydale is the end of the line of the Lilydale Line, which shares a line between the city and Ringwood with the Belgrave Line, passing suburbs such as Camberwell and Box Hill. Between Mooroolbark (the following station in the UP direction) and Lilydale is the only single section on the line, compared to three on the Belgrave Branch. Therefore, during the evening peak, most trains resort to shunting into the yard behind the station, or short terminate at Mooroolbark or Ringwood, to ease delay for oncoming services. In this video, we see trains returning from the evening peak, with quite a few services heading into the yard, between the period of 17:44-19-55. Since Siding A in Lilydale Yard can only accommodate 3 cars, one 6-car train set has to split, in order to fill the siding. The remaining 3 cars, from what I witnessed formed the next city bound service, which I found odd, seeing that it was just only a 3 car, and normally would be doing Ringwood-Lilydale Shuttles. I am unsure if the train will couple onto another 3 car at Ringwood or just continue on citybound. (correct me if you know anything about this service). The only trains seen here are Alstom Xtrapolis 100's, the main source of traction on the Burnley and Clifton Hill Groups. We also see some Ventura Lilydale Artic Buses, accomodating the peak hour traffic from the train.
