Based soley on this documentary the guy is a really sympathetic figure with a beautiful family. I truly don't want him to go to prison. But, he did something that way more often than not ends in incarceration and the state taking him away from his family. He says he couldn't get a job even though he was motivated. But he could have trained in a skill and become a tradesman. He could have used that motivation to become a valuable asset to a company willing to look past his criminal record. But, he didn't do that. He wanted a lot of money fast and had the connections to make it happen. So, even though it's really sad it's definitely his fault.

I agree, the government should only make crimes against another person illegal. What I mean by that is if you sell to a child or a person dies or is harmed from something they got from you. Other than that, as long as you're an adult dealing with other adults they shouldn't get involved with what we put in our own bodies. The Drug War was started by Nixon and it's come out now he only did it to break up the black and hippie communities. As a cop, I respect this man's ability to accept responsibility for his actions. I also respect his desire to better himself and do everything he can to ensure that his children learn from him. There's a balance out there. A place where a lawfully convicted criminal is appropriately punished, but treated in a manner that reduces his/her chance of re-entering their prior life. There's also a place where victims and their families get the justice they deserve. We just have to find it. Good luck to you Jason and your beautiful family.

I'm sure there are many people who are wishing Jason and his family a lot of prayer and positive vibes. Being a cop is a profession, but being humane is what we're all here to do. People make mistakes. Most people learn from them early and don't go on to make really big mistakes. Jason is a product of the choices he freely made. He's responsible for those actions, but we're responsible to help him not make them again because all crimes have a victim despite what you read on the Internet. From watching this video, I'm sure he'd tell you the same thing.

Yes, his family is beautiful, and for the most part - so is he -- but let's look at this pragmatically: while the film doesn't touch on it, this guy who claims to be "ALL ABOUT PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY"" and "SETTING AN EXAMPLE" for his kids, was selling cocaine! A cocaine dealer's life is rarely, if ever, "Ozzy and Harriet", you are dealing with desperate people 24/7 (literally), w/ large amounts of money and very high stakes so the notion it was all 'a-ok' till he was pinched (arrested) sounds like alot of "wishful thinking" (very common, very human, I'm not judging them for it - just making an observation). The client's the supported his livelihood also have families, and they do desperate, awful things to support their habit... So everyone tries to "take care of theirs" while kinda being purposefully blind to the consequences of their actions and around and around we go... *Instead of "Jesus" - we need more open eyes, less escape, less excuses, and far more personal responsibility and accountability.* As somebody that has seen/lived this life first hand - I can say with near certainty that these are *THE ONLY REMEDIES* that raise one out of these situations.

Your an idiot if you believe this. My dad was a felon and I struggled with believing he could change for my whole life. I decided to become a parole officer at age of 21. My first meeting with paroles and probationers was to set up treatment and rehabilitation ( all government funded) by 1 month 9 out of 10 of those men or women would be drug addicts again or be on the run. Your an idiot if you believe “opportunities” will change people. I learned this with my dad, only thing that can change a man is the man himself.

The drug sentence in the us are ridicules. Exspecially on the federal level . I was convicted on a conspiracy charge in federal court in 1992 i was given 121 months 10 years one month i was 22 years old at the time . On a federal sentence an inmate has to do 85 percent of their time you are give 54 days of good time a year after you serve your first year . Like i said i was convicted on conspiracy no drugs no money nobody saying i sold them drugs just two phone conversations and a man saying he sold me drugs got me 9 years 8 months in federal prison .

There is a federal criminal statue called preponderance of evidence ware even though a difendent is found no guilty of a crime a judge can still enhance a federal defendence sentence Of a count he or she was not found quilty by using the criminal statue preponderance of evidence. All the comments i see about how about not breaking law in the first place, the man clearly acknowledge that he did wrong, the topic of the video is about repeat offenders not about him breaking the law. Most of you uncaring people fail to see how the criminal justice system is geared to repeat offending and how we as a society has more less made it a forgone conclusion that ex-prisoners will repeat and the truly sad part is you dont care. How is a man who has paid his debt to society suppose to feel when he has to continually be reminded that he made a mistake in his youth, when we as a society wont let him go on with his life. Most ex-felons when they get out of jail leave with no vocational training, no counseling, and no support system from society at large. Not to mention when the do go for a job interview or fill out a application they are asked "have you ever been convicted of felon" mark yes and there is a 95% chance you wont get the job. Mark "No" and your employer finds out you have there is a 100% chance you will not stay in that job. Then there is the denying of rights afforded to every citizens that you lose, or may get back them back if you beg your government sufficiently, but you still have to pay taxes rather you do dont. All this could be avoided if we take some steps on the front end, steps like funding education properly, funding education in prison, funding mental illness care properly, provide counseling if people do commit crimes, not putting non-violent offenders in with violent ones, and once they are release we say you have paid you debt welcome back to society with full rights and protections of a citizens, and last but not least ban the box . If we did all these things, we could cut repeat offenders down, and save a helluva lot of money in the process.

My husband and I together make about 88,000 a year we both work only have one child at home we both came from broken homes single mom families. We choose to do better & be better for ourselves. Anyone could say I’m doing all I can for my family but doing it selling death isn’t doing all you can! My grandparents dug worms and night crawlers in the rain to sell to bait shops when they had 5 young kids at home to feed in the 1950’s. Selling poison to other families is sick I would respect a man more who cleaned toilets or worked sorting trash. I have a uncle who sold flowers on street corners before getting a better job. I have one cousin who sold cocain he says for his family after 6 years in prison he came out and got a actual job for his family personally they should have kept him longer it wasn’t for his family he liked fast money and flashy things he had other options but they required less more work for less money.

I can relate to this dude in some way. I am a white male, raised in a good home with caring parents. Mid 30's. Graduated from preparatory school with honors. I got into trouble from time to time, got mixed up with drugs and alcohol. Never really liked the regiment of school, but that was priority number one. If I made good grades, I got what I wanted. Got accepted into a good college. Unfortunately, accidentally, I found college kids go nuts over weed, amphetamines, and alcohol, I had access to all three. Most of my fellow students had cash, and lots of it. So one day, during a party in the dorm, I said I had the goods, and I made well over a grand. In one night. I saw a local doctor, and told him I had pain a trouble concentrating. Got prescription drugs, which I sold for 5 times the value. Bam. No problem. The demand was INSANE. I shared it at first with close friends. The word spread like fire. I was very reluctant at first thinking, shit, I am starting my own little college cartel running from my dorm room. I said I would stop right there and then. But it was short lived. A 10 mg adderall could be sold for $25 faster than a blink. A 750 ml of scotch gone for $100. A M15 Oxy, out the door for $50. The money and popularity was overwhelming. I took great precautions not to stand out. But I made over $25K my freshman year. I quit my sophomore year. Just short before one of my customers got caught and tried to set me up to avoid jail. Something was off since he was asking or an unusual request, I knew right there and then when the game was over. Did not bite. A week later, cops raided my place with a search warrant. They found nothing illegal. That was rather scary, the whole perimeter was covered. I flew straight all the way to graduation. Had I not been privileged, I would had keep on dealing. The money just kept on rolling in. This was a college kid, imagine someone with 4 kids....May 2020, does anybody know if there was a follow up to this story? I know growing up in the mid-class MD neighborhoods can be tough. Plagued with drugs and violence. I know with my story, the feeling f making easy money, especially if being young, is to tempting to walk away from it. Statistics show that there is a high probability at least one of them is living the life or has served time. But I really hope I am wrong.

When I was in my 20s I was on a fishing vessel, thousands of miles away from home working like a slave, struggling emotionally and physically. I realized that all the bad decisions I made in my life led me up to that moment. I realized that's how Karma manifests itself in your life. I was lucky to learn my lesson as a teen but my criminal record prevented me from joining the military and my mindset wouldn't let me believe I could succeed at a regular job. Hearing his son was sad because I understand the mental prison he's locked himself into and the life of pain he's likely to fall into. Stay in school and off the streets, get good grades, play sports and go to college.

I'm the poster boy for poor decisions.. but we all have to be accountable for our actions. This guy let his wife and beautiful children down. Next time take the job at Home Depot and make an honest dollar.

@@Bmontes so. Crime is better? Now,no one there. Not only poor but no dad. He could have done construction like I do. I am ex felon, the world stacked against me from day I was born, and I go to work and take care of my family. If I can,so can anyone. All excuses
