??? Please explain some time: I think you told us the outside of the log is more valuable than the cemter part. For a log with taper the forst bords cut have variable length until taper is gone. Same happens on other side when log is rotated. Why cant you follow the taper on both sides of the tree and remove the taper only when close to the center of the tree?

Hello. Could you help me financially expand my agriculture-related project? With this money, I would purchase the equipment necessary for harvesting livestock feed and cultivating the land. If you want to help me. In the description of the channel, the mail is indicated. Write there. Thank you.

Definitely could hear the combination of the harmonics of the blade spinning or "whining" when it reaches pitch, the hum of the vibrations of the mill itself, and lastly the echo as the sound combination bounced off of the rafters. Good to see you in operation as usual. Nice to see the back end staff working so well as usual, and I hoe that your respective families are doing well.

I come from 3 generations of logging but I am not a logger. I was thinning out my tree lot in North Bend Washington where we have Douglas Fir, Hemlock, Maple, and an abundance of Alder. My cousin was recovering in the hospital from a heart attack and while visiting he asked me what I was up to. He asked specifically if I was clearing any Alders and warned me they were a dangerous tree for splitting during the back cut and kicking back. It's called "barber polling" and has made many widows. He told me to be sure to wrap a chain around the tree above my cut. The next day I was cutting a particularly large Alder and followed my cousin's advice. I was about 4" into my back cut when a shot rang out. The tree fell moments later and I stopped my saw to look for someone shooting but found none. When I went to remove the chain I found it sunk into the bark over 1/4" and too tight to release. The log had split vertically from my cut and ran over 12' up the log. I'm pretty sure my cousin's advice saved my life or at least saved me from getting hurt. "The shot" was the sound of the log splitting and gives you an idea how much energy was released.

Is bore cutting used out west?

That is one of the reasons that you stand to the side of the tree, not behind it, when making your cuts. It is also one of the reasons why you move away from the tree as soon as it starts to fall.

@@buggsy5 That's always good advice but when a tree "barber poles" it explodes with great force that you cannot dodge. You also can't predict which way it will spring out. The chain is a great safety tool.

They upgraded to a bandsaw over the circle saw right when I started learning the trade. Reasoning was speed and size as the bandsaw could cut logs well in excess of 55 inches. However the roll case could only handle boards 26 inches lol. I like the edger saws on your mill. Not sure if that would be efficient enough at my place as the band resaws did most of the cutting of boards and even then , they only take it down to 9 inch by whatever and send that cant to the gangedger which cuts it into boards on 1 pass because it has 36 circle saws all going at the same time lol. We could pump out over 1 million board ft per week without any problem.

I miss working at my old sawmill. I ran the log loader for 2 years , debarred for about a year , then on to the headsaw for about 15 years. I could saw about 90 poplar logs an hour on the 8 and 10ft , about 80 to 85 on 12 ft , about 75 to 80 on 14ft and 70 to 75 on 16ft. I had to only get the cant down to under 23 inches.

I subscribed today. Interesting video. It would be calming if not for the various camera angles that seemed to put the operator precariously close to the moving parts. You get sucked into that apparatus and it would be way worse than any Russian lathe! Good work.

Does no one cut timber on the quarter sawn or is it just all backoff grain????
@buggsy5
12 күн бұрын
Most production lumber is plain sawn. You get quarter-sawn planks automatically with the cuts near the center. Quarter sawing requires far more cant manipulation and is usually only done for custom orders.
