4:44 That little kick is not the transmission, that's your motor mounts. All of the GMT900 platform SUV's with the 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8 seem to get this issue after 70-100,000 miles or so depending on how hard its life has been. Open the hood, put her in Drive, step on the brake and give it some gas. You'll see that engine block try to hop out of there.

For whatever reason this seems to be somewhat common for all GM RWD/4WD platforms. Even later model S10s with the 4 cylinder would smoke engine mounts. Hilariously, the S10 mounts are enormous (about the size of a regular sized jar of mayo or peanut butter) and that little anemic motor eats them up anyhow.

@mp-wf9ek

So the only service you've done to your vehicle you've owned since brand new were oil changes? Meaning you never changed any other fluids (transmission, power steering, brake fluid, differential, or transfer case)? I don't mean to jinx you but that sounds like you should be prepared for a potential huge failure in the future that'll make you file for bankruptcy lol. But seriously, it's a huge risk to not do any other maintenance other than oil changes. Sure it's the main and most important but a car is more than just its engine!

One thing to note the 08-09 Denali did NOT have AFM aka cylinder deactivation. The 07 had the hardware but it was not activated, however the 08-09 didn’t have the hardware at all. It wasn’t until 2010 when they started using the AFM (cylinder deactivation) so find one before 2010 and you’re good. I have an 08 Denali with 227k miles on it and it’s running strong with no signs of giving up.

My college graduation present in 2010 was an ‘09 Denali. I kept it until 2016. As soon as it hit 100k mi on Christmas Eve 2014 it fell apart- within 3 months, fuel sending unit went out, oil pan started leaking, airbag sensor went out, both front wheel bearings, cruise control went out and none of the recommended fixes worked. Within the next year, master fuse burned out and made every light on the dash come on at 2 in the morning, alternator went out, wire to the starter burned up and it had periodically had electrical issues for the 6 months before I sold it, both front exterior door handles broke, and on the inside before it hit 100k the leather on the center console cracked one winter and the “chrome” on the interior handles peeled and was very sharp. I kept it until 130k because the infotainment system started getting dead pixels and for some reason flipped upside down and kept defaulting to 12 AM. It was just too expensive for someone fresh out of grad school and getting started. I loved it though and I never damaged it, so the White Diamond paint did really well. I took it all over the US and it was very comfortable to ride in. I miss it sometimes, but definitely not the year and a half full of repair bills.

If you can find a NEW Denali for 65k your're getting a smoking deal on one. I do window tinting for a local GMC dealer here in OKC and they move more Denali Yukons than anyone around. The usual msrp on them is anywhere from 79-82k depending on options. Also from someone who is in and out of over 70 new GM truck platforms a month (driving to and from the dealer) the initial transmission slop you're talking about is experienced from day one. They feel like they are waiting to engage and then kick really hard.

One issue you failed to mention is the rampant problem with the dash board cracking on the driver's side and passenger side. Both sides crack at both ends of the air vent on a 45 degree angle. My 2011 Avalanche LTZ has been garage kept and babied since the day I bought it and I still managed to get these cracks. I looked online and there are TONS of people out there with the same issue. Maybe but the avalanche tends to be cheaper than a silverado. I got mine for 14 grand and the dealer wanted a similar silverado for 3 grand more, 17k. The Avalanche also is nice because it rides smoother , has a better turning radius, and the bed is connected to the cabin so you can fold down the rear seats and have a full size 8 foot bed. Not to mention that it's the most unique looking truck in the business معتز التميم

My mom has a 2007. It runs strong and is not terrible on gas but two exterior door handles have broken over the years and the ac control buttons have worn away and the remote is iffy sometimes and the plastic tow hitch cover fell of years ago but it is not a bad car. In fact she is giving it to me...

I have driving a XL Denali no for 5 years. Two things to add to your things to watch for. The cheap plastic dash will start cracking if you live in warmer climates. Everyone I know in SE Texas that owns a Tahoe Or Burban has a cracked dash. It is bad enough that GM has offered to replace some models for as little as $300. But no recall. Also everyone I have known with the air ride has had the compressor go out, including myself. And he price to repair is crazy.

Not sure if someone else here has noted this but these SUV's are notorious for cracked dashboards, peeling interior door handles and exterior door handles that literally break off in your hand. The engines and transmissions are very solid in my experience but the older GMT800s have aged better all around and still command a decent price on the market.

woodenshoesgamer The US is a huge country. If you're near a big city housing could be 10-20-40 times that much but in more rural areas you can get cheap prices like 65k, just don't expect much, he did say a small house after all.
@woodenshoesgamer

billy mccabe yeah i understand that it is more expensive if youre near a big city, but even in the "rural" area's in my country there is nothing that comes even close to that price.

billy mccabe Yeah, $65k in Wichita, KS buys you a decent starter house that might be like 1,500 sq. Ft. If you want a decent sized, nice house you're looking at $150k or more.
@woodenshoesgamer

And you could drive cross the the Netherlands in a few hours. You'd have to travel a few hours outside of one two of the largest US cities just to find a homes for €200,000 (~$235,000). If you wanted to cross the US, it would take you another 45 hours of nonstop driving or most of week realistically. There are some parts of the US that are so remote and so desolate, it would take a day just to find large populations.

I'd much rather live in a nice, quite neighborhood, somewhere in the middle of the country, where homes are affordable, crime is lower, the air is cleaner and the spending power is higher rather than pay $1,800,000 to buy a rundown shack in the middle of Los Angeles that has a view of a homeless bum taking a dump on the hood of your car.

Or compromise. I live next to a large city (not in one), in a mid-size city, with the lowest crime in Canada of any mid-size city (190,000 people and we have, on average, one murder a year). It's probably safer than the country tbh. And if I want to go to a fun, large event, I can be there in 40 minutes. No mosquitoes, no lime disease, no long drives into town for things.

It's typical drive to work and back Is 5 minutes long. Just curious because it has the 5.3 with active fuel management and I have heard of people having problems with these engines. I currently have 85000 miles on mine.

I have the DexCool issue with a newer Mopar I just bought. "But how" you may ask yourself? Because Mopar uses orange and now pink coolant in their engines, people think "Oh, it's Dexcool!" and add that when topping off. The water pump on this car leaked, and the PO topped off with DexCool, which also didn't get along well with the Mopar coolant. Now I'm dealing with a sludged-up coolant system. And that can actually happen with other makes and models - So checking the coolant is actually good advice to buyers of ANY car!

inherited a 2007 Suburban 1500, which has all the following problems: infamous cracking dashboard plus snapping rear bucket seat armrests broken exterior door handles - front ones replaced under warranty, back ones replaced with aftermarket chromed metal handles (@$300/pair, not including installation) razor-sharp peeling chrome interior door handles - thanks for the recall info, will check to see if mine qualifies with the horrendous highway oil consumption I also paid a few hundred bucks for a chip programmer to deactivate Displacement on Demand (DOD) aka Active Fuel Management according to the TSB you're also supposed to replace one of the valve covers with a new design (at your own expense) but since I drive it under 2000 miles/year I haven't done that yet
