Last numbers i've seen on the succesrate of change management is about 80% fails and go's back to the old structen, 10% stops halfway and 10% actually succeed and manage to reap the benefits. Why are the numbers this way, because companies have their old ghosts haunting them and they are set in stone on how they do stuff. So the moment something new doesnt work,, the ghost pops up and people go back to their old ways. Also a structural change expert who really shines at what they do (getting that 10%) are expensive because the demand is really high for people who can actually achieve this.

@@deathmetalalchemist5861 And what's further disappointing is how both veterans and DE view endgame. I think they both view it as a singular thing, like World of Warcraft has PvP and Raids being the top 2. Warframe has Eidolons, Arbitrations, ESO (for what it's worth), Liches and Railjack (although they need SEVERE work). etc. Warframe doesn't cater specifically to one demographic of player, sure you could argue casual over vet and I'd agree, but I mean playstyle specifically. Due to how flexible Warframe is with playstyles they can do different FORMS of endgame and it be viable and possible. The other thing is, near the beginning when she asked how big the studio is, someone in chat said 200ish. That's wrong, DE has ~400 which is the same size as Bethesda. Let that sink in, how inefficient they are with the same quantity as Bethesda. Shows just how off track, unorganized and unprofessional they really are. I'm not shitting on DE to do so, I'm shitting on them because Warframe is a brilliant idea with smart people behind it, but they aren't being organized and pushed with a goal in mind. Monster Hunter World is actually a great example of how to FIX Warframe. The old Monster Hunter games were very, very Warframe-y. They threw an enormous amount of stuff at you all at once with infamously little tutorializing. Warframe needs the Monster Hunter World treatment. It needs more than just a rework of the first few missions. It doesn't just need a better hour-one tutorial. It needs a "low rank" - a slow and constant progression of introductions that lasts until you've built up to an understanding of all the base game systems. And then it needs to add in-game breadcrumbs to the rest of the content. Some of it wouldn't be hard at all! Liches could be so much better with a few tiny tweaks. Imagine if a lich showed up after War Within and Palladino called you over to hand you an initial set of 1-use-remaining requiem mods, and told you to put them in your parazon, hunt the lich, and figure out the combination. That's all you would need. The rest is self-explanatory: when you try one, it crosses it out very obviously in the UI. When you get enough murmurs, it shows you what you learned, and the UI even shifts them around to show that the order is unknown. Vanquish or convert could stand to say under it exactly what you'll get, but otherwise it's self-explanatory. Theft is self-explanatory, and Ordis could just chime in the first few times to mention that you'll get it back when you defeat the lich. Then once you defeat the first lich, Palladino calls you back, tells you about relics and gathering new requiem mods, and warns that if you keep fighting the grineer, you might spawn a new lich. We're talking about zero changes to how any of it works - just handing out some mods and recording a tiny handful of voice lines. That's all it would take to turn something that requires wiki time or scouring patch notes into something anyone could easily participate in. The point is that a lot of the game is actually designed pretty straightforwardly! There are some truly awful things like vaults, but a lot of the more recent stuff is fairly intuitive. The UI is pretty bad in a lot of ways, but things like the lich UI actually do a great job of showing things intuitively without having to explain them. Some of the game needs a huge amount of tutorializing - mods should be a multi-step introduction - but beyond the complex foundation, a lot of the systems actually just need like the last 5%, just a tiny bit of introduction or glue, and beyond that everything is pretty self-evident. That they never, ever put this glue in is so frustrating.

B A L A N C E. T H E. G A M E. Just put everything on a normative curve. All CC should scale to each other. Harder CC can be single target, softer CC can be aoe. This principle can be applied to everything. From this point forward the enemies can be made more than sandbags because once warframes are standardized enemies can be standardized. Warframes can still be unique. But all powers should be able to be compared to each other in the task they perform. This includes durability among warframes. Tanks will always be be meta as long as weapons, health, and abilities do not scale inversely/comparably. Tanks cannot do as much damage as high damage casters. This is simple balance. Sorry for the rant. I think my point has been made. Edit: The skillcap on warframe is one of the lowest I've found in gaming, because it can be solved in the arsenal. It's a time investment, not a skill development. You can acquire warframes that take all the necessary skill out of the game.

They need to have a damn category for warframe powers and base new content on each category, we have 0 effect on orbs and also the massive size becomes a problem when no powers were designed to work at that scale besides nova or octavia maybe. Currently hemocyte is the most fun because so many things work.

Zime, from what I've noticed trying to play arbitrations lately, inaros is the only consistent frame due to things such as 'disruption bomb enemies nullifying you, nullifiers spawning like crazy on corpus(hard to deal with with melee sometimes), enemy leech enemies mass spawning sometimes, and those roller skate guys nullifying you, with these things all combined inaros is the only good frame that can handle these measures without dying practically ever, it doesn't matter if WISP, Oberon, rhino, gara, equinox tank, nova, chroma are probably better than inaros at tanking... Because those frames can't consistently play the game without having limitations thrown at them.i think nullifiers should change and be instead a shield against abilities , as in enemies can not be affected by abilities whilst within, meaning mesa obviously can't just kill them, but mesa can run into the bubble and then not lose her sheild, same with rhino and all the other frames etc. This should apply to everysort of nullifying enemy or mission in the game and it would promote players builds without these limitations and also would meta shift from just inaros to basically all good frames being viable in endgame. And with that nullifying change, that effect can still cancel out cc, and remove things like spores and whatnot, it's mainly just needing to be changed on how it effects your warframes fundamental build. Example being Oberon, Oberon can heal his team, he can revive teammates every 90seconds each with his augment, however with the current restrictions, leech enemies counter his energy immensely, nullifiers touching him completely disable his abilities making him have to reset it and re gather his team for the buff, along with nullifiers also resetting his teammates when they touch them. Trying to keep his buff active consistently is a hassle, why must the game be like this. The game is great at providing us tools and letting us make builds, but at the same time it limits us by practically disabling these tools and blocking the use of said tools. The greatest example are all the enemies that are immune to abilities or status.

it's a deeper issue that DE put this massive and coordinated team of content creators together.....and then refuses to listen to any of their feedback and just goes off their stat charts.....Warframe's their job, if they play games in their own time, it's likely different games, but it means they don't know the issues from a longtime player perspective and, more disappointing, they refuse to take feedback from a ready made group that is supportive of them and wants the game to succeed...

One of the absolute biggest problems with content like the Orb Mothers is time per run, with the drop rates where they are you generally need a TON of runs to get what you may want, but DE think it's OK to make the fight take awhile while having abysmal drop rates for rewards and nerf fun speed strats that players find, so instead of engaging with a fun drop rate and fight everyone just gravitates to maximum achievable efficiency in the game.
@Kirost-V
4 жыл бұрын
In short the game gravitates to "optimize the fun" out of the game. Imho it has been this way for years. Either DE removes (or does not add the fun in the first place e.g. universal vacuum) or the players themselves find efficient strategies that remove the fun. Pre-rework Nekros in survival runs is a good example of this. Kuva weapons' farm is also a good example. From my experience talking to people, out of all the players that got all lich weapons in a short period of time no one liked the process and took a break from the game after finishing the grind.

super interesting perspective on why theres so much of a disconnect in communication between the devs and the community nowadays from someone who actually works in the industry. re: restructuring the game itself, i think a bunch of progression roadblocks, e.g. MR locks, caps on cetus/fortuna standing, are really just unnecessary bloat that could be removed without significantly interacting with the actual gameplay balance at all the simplification analogy with WoW is unfortunately how i feel about status changes. corrosive and viral now perform very similarly, base weapon damage distributions don't matter as much anymore because IPS status weighting is gone (i would have preferred if they made impact and puncture actually useful instead) and they removed a wide variety of pure elemental weapons, and there's still no reason to build with more status chance mods because a) there is a status effect cap that assault rifles easily reach and b) there's too much opportunity cost for actual damage mods. there just aren't a lot of interesting choices to be made. i would rather they make more statuses actually useful rather than rebalance them. what if magnetic boosted the effectiveness of warframe powers the same way ancient disruptors reduce effectiveness of warframe powers? or maybe radiation instead? what if cold could permanently freeze an enemy upon reaching a high number of stacks? what if electric generated some energy for warframe powers? what if toxin also ignored armor, properly competing with corrosive and viral? it doesn't even need to actually ignore armor, you could just give it 50% effectiveness against armor instead. just make status actually interact with the rest of the game beyond "lol more damage"
@42ZaphodB42

Regarding the MR block, there very well could be legislation aimed to try and curb addiction in kids that DE has to work around; China tied the accounts of gacha/ multiplayer games to people’s irl IDs that tracks and limits how much time or money they can spend on it in a month; I don’t know if that’s something that’s in play, but it is a possibility.

50:00 just wanna throw my reasoning for staying in the ring: I started playing. It was miserable. It was like 4-5 years ago I think. Before POE, before many things. I can't even remember at what state the game was at that point. I think Nidus was released around the time I started playing or teased or something. So like I said, it was a dread. I played for like 10 hours or so, and I was completely lost. But I decided to check out the Clan feature before uninstalling. So I went into the Recruitment tab, which I randomly found, and just typed (in my language): "Hey, I'm new and lost, looking for people to explain stuff" and for some reason, a dude from a small guild with like 10 people decided to invite me to his Teamspeak. We spoke for some time, and they decided to take me in. And that's when I started to enjoy the game. Because these 10 dudes decided to use their free time after work to teach me everything. FOR HOURS AND DAYS. They took me to the orokin stuff, escorted me to important things, explained the entire fcking modding system, explained armor, enemy typing, warframes, story, progression. EVERYTHING. Told me how to use the market effectively, how to get platinum, what to buy and what to skip. They also gave me direction towards the best thing in the game the second dream. I seriously didn't even realize that there was a story behind this game. Sure there was this weird dude and you had like cool little quests for warframes, but a Story? I had no idea. It took me, even with these people around 80 hours before I understood the base of the game on a good level. EIGHTY. HOURS. Honestly, I do think, it is almost impossible to get into this game when you do not have people willing to spent days teaching you things. And I'm a hardcore gamer, I love games, I've been playing them my whole life. I do know the basics in most games, just because I played a lot of games. But this game was something else. It expects you to know but doesn't bother helping you. I have to admit it got slightly better in these 4-5 years, but it's still not a good state. Far from it. Shocking this little has changed in this time if I'm honest.

@Brozime I never thought I would say this..... But this video has helped me see a side of warframe that I had not seen before. As a veteran who has played this game till day 1 I had forgotten the new player experience. Many time in Warframe (like with shotguns) I felt like I did with Magic the Gathering.... I'm stupid and a failure. After years of playing Magic I finally understand it and I have a dragon deck that is unstoppable. With Warframe I did something similar and forgot the beginning and how from day one Wall running was a must but made no sense. And now with this video I have a better understanding and view of the game. I usually have avoided watching you Brozime because in many ways you anger me with some of the (what I had thought was) negativity. But now I realize you are just as passionate about Warframe as I am and want it to be one of the best games out there. You want the new player to feel like they are our Tenno family. For that I will continue watching you vids and I will be more open minded. As for Warframe, I love the game and I had to make a list of things to accomplish to push myself forward and get things I did not have before. But I do believe that Warframe needs to get out of the mindset of "This is our last Hail Mary. Lets do something radical so that we don't have to close our doors....." They started that way but now they need to seize their reclaimed power and surge forward with trying to make a great game and leave the "Shit we are going down might as well do it with a bang." They need to see they made a game that everyone loves and just like they refined the graphics and reworked my favorite warframes........ they need to rework and take all the fun they have done and combine it to rival the other games on the playing field. Thank you for helping me see another side of this and please enjoy my first like of one of your videos. You earned it.

each planet needs to be associated with a quest. quests need to be stringed together to keep story working. items for farming quest related stuff needs to be on the planet the quest is on. MR 28, I will continue to play the game. But I agree exactly that you say about Railjack. Unbalanced, doesn't mesh well with the rest of the game. I play it at little as possible, even after fixes and changes. It has left a bad taste on my mouth. I find it hard to believe that any changes they bring to Railjack, positive or negative, will change how I feel about it. If you build upon a base that is not fundamentally not enjoyable to begin with, it's just going to remain fundamentally bland. Railjack to me is far more hamster wheel/ treadmill content than anything in the game, and I don't currently see that changing. I would like to be proven wrong. I do kind of get tired of broken/ unbalanced releases, waiting for fixes months or years later. That retroactive need to fix everything also hurts their development process as well. Shoddy workmanship hurts every craft in the long run, right? Would you buy a house sitting on a bad foundation?

Lol like most people my first 10 hours playing about 8 of them were reading the wiki and watching KZitem guides. If feel the early game is a big trap to get new players to buy some plat, the old mod packs and credit and endo bundles were very tempting.
@Kirost-V
4 жыл бұрын
I guess I got kinda lucky starting the game. I didn't use the wiki the first ~100 hours or so (maybe closer to 200), didn't notice the mod packs until about 700-900 hours in, and, I believe, at the time I started there were no fusion core packs, so I avoided that too. The game itself was repetitive and intuitive enough that the simple logic of *big numbers = good* and a healthy dose of energy and stubbornness of youth could carry me through the star chart. As for platinum, I spent the initial 50 on the abrasys syandana (which, as I learned later, just came out) -- never regretted it. And then bought a bit of plat for one of the pallet packs. -- never bought plat since aaand I've got basically everything I could wish to own now.

From the perspective of User Experience Design, we have a term for a lot of the issues you're describing. It's called "UX Debt". It refers to the debt incurred on the user experience every time one small decision is made for the sake of efficiency and ease of deployment. An example is the Dragon Keys. They probably put them in that clan room as a stopgap, a quick and easy dev action that will make the user problem of "why are you trying to push me towards the market" go away. At that moment they incurred UX Debt. One instance of UX Debt doesn't create a bad user experience, but a lot of UX Debt over time will result in frustration and hostility. The key characteristic of UX Debt is that it is harder to fix these issues later than it is to implement them properly the first time. That is what DE is facing right now. A lot of UX and Tech Debt. Just thought I would share that perspective :)

These companies should not be left off the hook when it comes to balance. I've heard people try to excuse Overwatch saying it's too complicated. Truth is it's only hard if you don't have a philosophy and clear standard in mind. It's clear Blizzard doesn't know what they want OW to be, and it's clear DE don't know what they want WF to be. When we see Pablo balance a warframe, his standard and philosophy is abilities need to compound each other to allow for creativity, and it has to be interactive. Every warframe he's touched has been fantastic as far as I'm concerned. And each warframe he's balanced interact synergetically with each other. I agree with everything stated, the game is bloated AF, the game does not teach itself to noobs, but balance should never be excused. Balance is only hard when you DON'T make decisions.

After watching this, I feel the best way to get DE to understand this is to sit each down with someone who has only just heard of Warframe and give them the task of explaining the details of the game. They will be pulling their hair out in no time.

Steve actually said one of his friends told him mod screen is intimidating and he said well we want player that what I want. People who are committed to learn. Not people who wanna play casually 😆. On the other hand I don’t if u are old enough, but legend of Zelda gave you a sword and said go play a very complicated game full of hidden rooms and riddle. And it’s one of the best games of all time.

“I don’t understand. I don’t understand! I don’t understand a single part about you, Warframe! I don’t understand what’s good about the things you call good! I don’t understand! I can’t understand! What’s so cool about “Grind”? I don’t like grind. Grind is just boring! What’s so cool about “low drop chances”? I don’t understand what’s good about driving players crazy! What do you mean by “innovation”? What’s so good about having innovation? Is it cool being new? And what’s with “layers of grind”, anyway? Layers? What about it? What about “co-op focused”? You want it to be co-op only? Between achievement and grind, why is grind better? Why do you prefer grind? Isn’t it grind because it’s not sustainable? What’s so cool about your keyboard hand aching? “I love the feeling of being able to control my players time”? What’s that? That just makes you a fool! It’s much cooler when they have control! THAT’S worthy of respect! What’s so awesome about writing off your bugs all the time? That’s just slacking off! It’s much cooler to face bugs head-on, at full strength, without leaving anything behind! Why do you give everything nicknames and aliases? Having so many different names only makes them hard to keep up with! Don’t use Corpus or Grineer names for everything! I can’t remember those! Don’t write “XP” and read it “Affinity”! Don’t write “Field Boss” and read it “Assassin”! Don’t write “Nemesis” and read it “Lich”! Greek myth, the Bible, Norse myth, Japanese myth…Don’t start integrating them just because you did a little research! If you don’t properly explain it, I can’t understand what you mean! If you’re going to teach me, teach me right! Listening to explanations about game systems is not fun! Elements, status effects, faction bonuses, critical hits, and multiplicative modding all mean nothing to me! I don’t understand what’s cool about them! All your other terminology is confusing, too! Focus, Intrinsics, Reputation, Relics, Kuva…What do you mean by “their names are cool”? It’s impossible for me to “feel it by their atmosphere”! Games-as-Service, Connected Systems, UI design…Don’t act like you understand them because you read a little on the net! I can’t understand them at all if you give half-baked explanations! Don’t quote developers or tech insiders! When you start quoting people I don’t know, I can’t understand what you’re trying to say at all! Talk to me in your own words! I’m begging you, speak so I can understand you! What is “Focus”? What does “Focus” mean? I don’t understand, I don’t understand, I don’t understand, I don’t understand! I don’t understand! I don’t understand a single system you’ve ever implemented at all, Warframe!” - Saria, probably

Let it be said I really respect that Warframe is a great game. We didn’t get into story/lore and all the really cool parts of that. (Though it’s a good idea to talk about at some point) Also, that in some ways it’s just not a game for me and that’s okay too. But I can also step back and look at aspects of the game from the view of a new player who wants to learn more. 😂 but please quote devs and insiders. Please give me more information. Please give me input and help me understand things I don’t.

@@ElegantSaria The first part of what I said to search - When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace - is the name of the anime. And yeah, there's a reason why Hayami Saori is considered one of the best in her field. That, and she's done voices for 170 combined titles (both animations and games). I've liked every character of hers that I've heard so far. But now, after having seen that, do you better understand my comment? Because that scene is what I thought of while Brozime was trying to explain the 'Focus' system to you. EDIT: I also feel that I must warn you: the rest of the anime isn't great. Mostly just your standard fighting + harem anime, but with one amazing scene that sometimes make me wonder if the writer of the show was getting pressured by higher-ups to make it 'fit the mold', and this scene was their revenge. Just speculation, but an interesting thought.

I did the friends list thing. Super depressing. A bunch of people that haven't played in a couple of years. I think after POE a lot of people just gave up the ghost. I actually joined the game probably 4 months before POE came out. A buddy of mine got me to join. He's one of those. I had an issue with a clan I was in. We Die Hard. They started to randomly chat block a bunch of people. We had enough started our own clan. Definetly not Ninjas. Almost all the people who stayed behind have stopped playing and even a handful of the folks who jumped ship are now gone. Had we not broken away I think we'd have all stopped. Part of this game is certainly social and when you don't have your people it's hard to stick around. Knowing that my clan keeps coming around keeps me coming around. I feel like I owe it to them.

As someone currently writing a dissertation, your comments at 33:00 were oddly motivating. Also, this conversation was delightful. I appreciate how well you listen to Sara and how brilliant you both are. I hope that DE listens to this conversation. You're one of the few people being both realistic and constructive about the recent (and not so recent) shortcomings of the game.

I think the main hook that keeps people invested in the beginning is the sheer concept of badass space ninjas. If it weren't for that, and the game was like an rts or a moba even, no one would play it. (or have an entirely different masochistic fanbase)

Brozime explaining the focus system and Sara's reaction was quite good. Warframe is basically grinding to grind to grind to grind even better. And all of it a bit unsatisfying.
