In the late 1970s, Denis Bendall was one of the most exciting prospects in Sydney rugby league.
However, in December 1979, the Balmain Tigers centre had an accident while working as a teacher was suffered a serious spinal injury. Doctors thought he'd never walk again, but Denis defied the odds and at 65 years of age still leads an active lifestyle.
In this video Denis tells his story, from his background as one of rugby league's first players of Asian decent to how he recovered from his harrowing ordeal.
