THE best book on GREP is by the wonderful Mr. Peter Kahrel. It's available from InDesignSecrets/CreativePro here: creativepro.com/product/grep-in-indesign/ You won't regret buying it... I use it all the time!

Nice video. I did notice that when you have multiple pages or text frames, the grep or find search in the sequence as they created and not in the sequence as they appear in layout.
@EricaGamet

Yes, most operations occur that way in InDesign.

Hi Erica, can you do a find/change to a word then insert a custom vector image behind it? for example: find the word John Smith {insert a small .eps logo} after every instance of 'John Smith' ? Thanks Erica

You can, though you might need to nudge it a bit, and depending on the graphic it might not work. You can copy an item to the clipboard, then in the REPLACE field, you can choose "clipboard contents." I was thinking you might be able to copy an anchored object...but you can't send it to back (it will sit on top of whatever text you anchor it to).

Namaste Erica mam, Can the GREP command be used on the following? eg. Part - 1 1. Isocratic-elution 2. Gradient-elution 3. Displacement 4. Frontal 5. P and Q 6. P and R 7. P and S 8. R and S.... 500. Participate in decomposition of hydrogen peroxide This is continuous typing; Can it be taken in table format? As if - 1. Isocratic-elution 2. Gradient-elution 3. Displacement 4. Frontal 5. P and Q 6. P and R 7. P and S 8. R and S 500. Participate in decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (2 column, 3 Column or 4 Column) part 2 1. Isocratic-elution 2. Gradient-elution 3. Displacement 4. Frontal 5. P and Q 6. P and R 7. P and S 8. R and S 500. Participate in decomposition of hydrogen peroxide It is typed one below the other. Can it be taken in table format like - 1. Isocratic-elution 2. Gradient-elution 3. Displacement 4. Frontal 5. P and Q 6. P and R 7. P and S 8. R and S 500. Participate in decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (2 column, 3 Column or 4 Column) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Problem - 1 MCQs in answer key sheet 1. a 2. d 3. c 4. a 5. a 6. d 7. c 8. a 9. d 10. a.... 200. d This is continuous typing; Can it be taken in table format like - 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. a d c a a 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. d c a d a 200. d (set of five, set of ten, or other set of..) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Problem - 2 Devanagari Typing always comes with English Typing. While changing the font of Devanagari, the English type was also changed to Devanagari. eg. - फॉन्ट चेंज (font change) In such a case, can the above case be searched for in GREP and translated into English?
@EricaGamet

I'm sorry, but you lost me on much of that question... you might try asking in the InDesign Secrets Facebook group or the Treasure of GREP FB group. Regarding the translation, no GREP can't handle translations.

Thank you your tutorial. I have one problem that I can`t solve. The result of "^ab|c" or "^a|bc"in InDesign Grep is different from that of any other Regex. Can you explain how "^ab|c" or "^a|bc"in InDesign Grep works.
@EricaGamet
2 жыл бұрын
^ab|c will find ab (both, together) OR c at the beginning of a paragraph. ^a|bc will find a OR bc at the beginning of the paragraph.

Hey erica, can you please show me how you did this dollar sign superscript using styles? I didn't found it in the whole playlist.
@EricaGamet
3 жыл бұрын
In your style, under GREP styles... apply your "superscript" character style (where the only thing defined is superscript) to \$ (the $ means something special in GREP so you have to use the backslash to denote it's a literal dollar sign).

How can create maths and chemistry equation in InDesign cc is I can't create the EQUATION , just like a Adobe pagemaker 7 with default settings, in the middle of text Right,text 🎼🔕
@EricaGamet
7 жыл бұрын
For math equations, you will need an add-on solution. MathType and MathTools are two that are well-known. I myself don't work with them, so you'll need to explore them. Most of them keep them as editable text so you aren't stuck with a graphic you can't change. Good luck!
