I have been studying Hebrew for a long time. Years and years ago I was advised to study Aramaic since it was the language that The Messiah spoke. I was not ready. I wanted a strong foundation in Hebrew. Now I am ready for Aramaic. I am so happy that I waited because I am much more closer to the scriptures now and wish to take a heavy dose of Aramaic. Could you tell me if Aramaic came from the son of Shem - Aram? If so, then Aramaic was the common language and the same as Aram''s Grandfather, Noah (Noach), In Genesis (Bare'shyth) 10:22 - Then in 11:1 we read that the whole earth was of one language! The language of Aram and Noach! Does this show that Aramaic existed prior to the Hebrews being described? If so, then Aramaic would appear to be an originating language! I don't see the Hebrews being described until after Abraham, but even the relatives of Abraham were from Paddan Aram, described as either Syrian or Aramean! 25:20 Yitzchaq was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian (some translations Aramean) of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, It would be most interesting to find the answer to this question! These Script are actually Aramaic Alphabets that the Jews adapted in 6th Century B.C.E for writing their own Holy Scriptures.Whereas, Samaritan-Hebrew was the actual writing system for Hebrew. Just as Aramaic / Syriac Christians adapted Hijazi-Arabic Alphabets in 6th Century A.D to write their holy scriptures. Therefore Jews make use of Aramaic script to communicate their Hebrew Language today.

No it is closer to Hebrew. I am from Lebanon, and my father knows a Lebanese friend who speaks Aramaic fluently.
