Thanks Richard. The older I get, the more I appreciate old things, especially keeping old machinery running.

Right on 👍…some of those old saws are like the guy who ran them…no quit in them, ready to go to work anytime, just might move a little slower than when they were in their prime 😎👍…nothing but respect! I restored a 056 Magnum a couple years ago, it was a full wrap, guy who worked for me about 6 years ago ended up with it after his Dad passed…it had sat in the basement and was pitted, fuel line and ignition were toast, but he was so happy to have it back running…he was telling me how he used to get to do some maintenance on it for his dad when he was a teenager…pretty special to be part of that 😉👍

Somehow this was a great Fourth of July saw even being German. Lol. Thanks for showing us this old gem and mentioning the rarity of that bar. It was fun watching that beast torque through the wood. I was 8 years old living on a college campus while my mom finished school at the time.

Right out of high-school I went to work in a log yard in Port Angeles WA bucking logs for the scalers and I used a 056 super. Absolute beast! We also had a 084 to buck the old growth spruce and cedar! Good old saws!

Thanks for sharing the old 056AV SUPER workhorse Richard. I have it’s little brother, my Dad’s old 1982 034AV and I have to say that it’s technically no longer a one owner saw, it’s been mine for many a year now, but it will always be a one owner to me because I swear since I got it running right, and it really came to life with a dual exhaust port but it’s mostly stock, i see my Dad right there alongside me when I was a boy showing me how to run “his” saw. It was no bs with him, and if I was the handler of the saw, I was also the maintainer. That is why today, my old 034AV looks much like the 056AV that this gentleman has. I’ll never give her up, but maybe someday I can pass it to a real “second” owner and like my Dad I’ll be right along side the young man. Happy 4th of July y’all!

I was married in 1988 at the ripe age of 23. Seems like it was only a few years ago. Looks like my marriage wasn't the only great thing that came out of '88. Happy Independence Day to my American friends.

Back when your saws were designed to last and able to be serviced in the field by the owner. I sure do miss the simplicity of equipment.

Live oak is wicked tough to cut and will wear you out loading limbs into a trailer. It is the most common hardwood in my area of Texas except for maybe mesquite but mesquite can be mechanically cleared.

Jerry’s saw was a little smaller (55+ cc) and a couple of years more recent. It sounded a *LOT* like this one. It had a shorter bar - about 28 inches or so.

Hi Richard, i have 2 056 magnums that have 54mm bores the same as supers. The magnum 2 is the one that has a 56mm bore. I bought them as parts saws so i tore them down and was expecting to see 56mm but i was not happy to see 54mm on both.

Very cool old saw. My question is what in the heck happened to those poor batteries on the back of the bench and was that middle one in a saw when it happened?

There are a few options for the ignition upgrade. I'm sure most of the parts are NLA from Stihl, but there's a fair amount of NOS and good used parts available on Ebay. I'm always skeptical of aftermarket parts. They can be a crap shoot.

When things been build to last, still run today like a champion... I highly doubt u will see modern saws will last that long...
