Thuy Thu Le gave the best performance in this film. She had no acting experience yet I feel she was robbed of an Oscar nomination.

Her acting was so real she looked genuinely frightened for her life when Erickson (Fox) untied her hands and she went scrambling to a corner. There is absolutely no acting like that from these movie stars today. Not a single one.

For years after watching this movie i HATED Sean Penn. I mean..how could he play such a dirtbag??? He was Spicoli in Fast Times At Ridgemont High man!!!!! Then years later i saw I Am Sam and i was blown away at his performance. He won me back. Casualties Of War still makes me shudder and cringe and cry still years later and it is all to the testament to great acting from Penn, Fox, Captain Dale Adam Dye and especially to Thuy Thu Le. Great directing from Brian De Palma. And a traumatically beautiful music score from the legendary Ennio Morricone which still haunts me to this very day!!! Thank you for this upload adamzanzie. This is a gem i will never forget.

From one De Palma fan to another, that was very nice and quite informative. I'm impressed you actually corresponded with some of the parties involved in the process of making this. This is probably one of De Palma's top three films, though it's also the hardest to watch for me. I've previously seen that clip of him fighting back tears as he discusses the film decades later, and it's just chilling to know it still affects him that strongly.

It’s a very disturbing movie, Audiences have a tough time dealing with this true story movie, No one wants to think that young American boys/soldiers turn so evil, it’s a hard pill to swallow !!
@Elsupermayan8870
2 ай бұрын
Nobody thinks that. It's just these particular soldiers committed a heinous crime. That was their own choice to make as it was not part of their mission to do that, as Meserve explains before they go out what he was planning to do, nor was it the objective of American forces in Vietnam.

What a wonderful job you did. Thank you for showing appreciation to this film when so many do not. This film stuck with me since I was a child. I'm always the one needing to tell others about it. Although it's sad, I realize people get totally into it once they are watching it. The hard part is convincing people to watch to begin with. You broke me man with that clip of De Palma crying. It literally made me cry on the spot and I gained even more appreciation for this film and I didn't think that was possible. I will always promote this film. I wish it got a 2nd chance to the masses. Thank you again for sharing this and doing the work here in bringing this to us. I'd love to meet De Palma one day just to thank him and tell him this film changed my life. I have so much to say bc I've always needed to discuss this film with like minded film lovers. But in short, this movie lives with me, no matter how sad it makes me, it may just be my favorite film ever just bc the guts it took to make it and the guts it took Erickson to expose those soldiers. God bless everyone involved in bringing this film forward. Would be nice to actually see a reunion with Sean Penn and Fox present and all the actors and DePalma for a Q&A and viewing. I'd do anything to be there and see that.

I was on the set. De Palma wasn't liked by us extra's as the food was shit and the days were long and hot! However I made it to the courtroom scene as stenographer and it all changed. I then ate the 'gourmet food' that the film crew and the starts ate everyday! Good to meet and speak with the actors! I ate pineapple with Thuy. Great memories! Phuket 87-88 Thailand.

Brian de Paul ( sorry for the misprint ) made an epic movie, of a horrible tragedy of a poor innocent woman, that had soo much pain conflicted against her, and then the most horrible death too. And, the two spores that were mostly evolved into the horrible incident, only got s slap on their wrists. I don't know any other horrible evilness like this.

I met the actors and sat talking to Ms. Thuy--we ate pineapple together! Sean Penn was not the bad ass he was reported as and Michael J was quite a 'chain smoker'! A good experience overall! Sorry that De Palma didn't get better results from this movie!

A wonderful and informative documentary on both the real life incident and the film it portrays. Thank you for such an amazing look at the film, but also in giving a voice to that girl who was savagely destroyed by something beyond her. As a rape victim myself, I cannot imagine what Phan went through. What kind of pain and degradation she endured. I've seen this film only a couple of times and each time was a difficult watch. I'm going to be getting the extended edition due to the added footage. I'm a true film nerd, I love those aspects and this is a must have considering I have Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket", Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" and Ridley Scott's "Black Hawk Down." I want this film in my collection. Thank you for the retrospective.

I think we know why this movie failed at the box office. It was a great movie and exposed the truth about the good and bad in those who are supposed to fight for freedom and justice. There are bad apples everywhere. Not all soldiers commit these type of crimes. Those who do should be punished and those who are the embodiment of truth, justice and freedom for all should be celebrated.

Elia Kazan made some classic films earlier in his career, but yes, I do not understand why he and his son Chris took "The Visitors" in such a nihilistic direction. I believe that film may have even gone to Cannes and gotten some decent reviews back then, but it is unsurprisingly never talked about today.
