Welcome to the Video! Let’s talk about making quick landscape sketches out on location.. . I transformed an old pastel box I wasn’t using into a traveling studio, filling it with soft pastels { diane townsend & so many others}, sennelier oil pastels & caran dache pastel pencils.. . I felt like on days when the light was changing so rapidly, soft pastels may help to more quickly capture that light ~ & I really like the fact I don’t have to be so meticulous about preserving the light, where I can just build those highlights back into the painting later.. . It’s a little bit more freeing when you’re on such a limited time crunch!
I also experimented with building these other mediums on top of watercolor sketches to see how they work together, sketchbooks are such a wonderful place to try these things out! If you don’t like it, you can turn the page ~ or paint over it!
I’ve found these 5 minute sketches to be such an enjoyable exercise when I’m crunched for time~ the ability to still be able to try a little bit of color play & thoughtful color building/form rendering during busy weeks has been incredibly refreshing! I cannot recommend enough snatching short moments of time when you can to build those creative muscles! They are like having little Painting Parties!
Let us know if you have any favorite sketching materials or techniques etc.. .
Enjoy!
& Happy Painting! 🤗🎨✨🌬️💗🍇🍉🥳
