We grew up with outhouses, our son built one on his block before they built their house, it's still used if you're down the bottom of the block. It also very handy for when the Scouts do their camping. Sam made a little hand basin with a 10gallon plastic bottle with a tap and hand wash and a little cheap battery light for night time use for the campers and a lovely framed picture of a frangipani.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, Helen! I really enjoy hearing your stories. The hand washing station sounds awesome. We should add something like that to our setup. (Oh, and I had to search frangipani as I had never heard of it before. It's beautiful!) :)

I haven't seen one of those on a private property since my Grandparents house 40 odd years ago!! Here in country Australia, we call that a "long drop" toilet... A lot of these long drop toilets are provided in National Parks so there isn't a need for water, plumbing etc. Most city people hate them!!! 🤣🤣🤣

(from Shawn) My great-grandparents (who raised my dad) lived a very primitive and simple life on a small homestead in Oklahoma. They used an outhouse their entire life until they passed away in the early 1990s. My great-grandfather would not use a toilet inside a house when visiting others, believing it was unsanitary to "do his business" inside a home. It is funny how quickly something that everyone had a few generations ago is now so uncommon. Thanks for watching!

I don't have a light in my walk-in closet. I have the light that looks like light switch and it's very bright. Growing up we had an outhouse. It had two holes, small and a larger one. Can't say that I miss that. We never had a bathroom in the house I belong to a pioneer threshing show. There is an outhouse on the grounds. In the outhouse there's a sink with no running water, so I took a big laundry detergent bottle with a spigot. I fill with water and some soap in it and put the bottle on it's side on the sink. This works really well for washing hands.

I grow up with an outhouse. Many people still had them then. We lived in a state that gets blizzards, you have never lived until you had to walk out there in a snowstorm. If it was too bad there was a pail in the house. We didn't think anything of it. But we always went out in twos in the dark.

My Great Grandparents in PA had a 2 Holer. One adult size and one child size. In later years they finally had an indoor bathroom but neither of them lived out of their 60’s so they didn’t get to enjoy it very long. Here in TN at least one of Daddy’s brothers was a Tenant Farmer and they had an outhouse, no running water, no refrigeration (kept milk, butter, etc in the Spring House) and a wood stove. I’ve used an outhouse in my life. I think your outhouse is very practical given the distance to the house if anyone is out working or playing away from the house. Good job, , Andrew!! 🙏🏻❤️

Is it possible since the outside panels are practically sitting on the soil that they are wicking up moisture through the center of the panel? That would explain why your stain may not be working so well on the outside of the panel. It would make sense and most of the damage seems to be near the top or the bottoms of the panels, not so much near the center. I have to admit I closed my eyes when you opened the lid but still found the video interesting and entertaining, lol. Have a great week to you and your family!

We had an outhouse when I was younger, there was 8 of us children, plus our parents. I do remember a black snake in the corner one time, after I sat down to "do my business ", and after I was finished, did I ever get out of there running as fast as I could go. I told my oldest brother, he was laughing, but went to get it out of there. To this day, I have a fear of ANY snake.

My mom lives on a farm in Nebraska when she was growing up they only had an outhouse. They used the old Sears Roebuck catalog in it. Just a thought in modern times maybe a little more expensive butrepair the bottom maybe with Hardyplank it doesn't absorb water as easy. The water is probably wicking into the wood and rotting it over time but Hardlyplank I think is cement based?fake wood, also on top of the stain you could use a sealer liquid coating if you use wood to fix it. Just a suggestion. Love y'all's videos.

Why can’t you use your toilet when your electricity goes out?
@ozarkfamilyhomestead
Жыл бұрын
Our home is on its own well (as opposed to city or county water), so our well pump no longer works when the electricity goes out. When that happens, the water doesn't automatically refill in the tank after flushing. Now, we can manually add water to the tank and continue to flush, but the outhouse gifts us another option. :)
