Don't worry, it isn't new lol. BB went like this BBCT (60). BBCS1 (60, 2 dlc chars iirc at 5 dollars each) > BBCS2 (free, which was nice of them, 1 dlc char for 5) > BBCS2 Extend (40, no dlc) > BBCP (60, 3 dlc chars, 5 each) > BBCP 1.1 (free again, thanks ASW) > BBCP extend (40, forgot if there was dlc) > BBCF (50 iirc with 3 dlc chars) > current version (I think it was a free update on console, maybe 1 last char). This was over 7 years or so so pretty fair, but people used to complain about having to buy new discs every year. Season passes are cheaper imo, but can really hurt new players if a game has been out for a long time, like DBFZ or Tekken

You're kinda lucky on the DLC front, since CentralFiction was basically released on Steam as the "Extend" version that already had all DLC characters in (Except for Jubei). In the vanilla CF release, Es, Susano'o, and Mai were also DLC, at the same price gouging of Jubei. But regardless, this was one of the most concise and in-depth reviews I've seen in a while. You didn't go out on tangents, you didn't devolve the video into becoming a guide, and you kept everything easy to digest, barring a few bits of fighter lingo that people new to the genre might struggle to understand, but those didn't make your points harder to understand. Kudos to you, Nick!

Important note: DLC in PS4 are way more Es, Mai, and of course Jubei and Susano'o for some reason are DLC Susano'o you can get from story mode, which is 20 hours long lol but you can skip all of it if you use the skip button (R2 I thinnk, idk just press all the buttons until the do you want to skip the current scene appears with the skip all text option set) Also some colors... But thta doesn't matter that much The announcers aswell but that doesn't matter much either just put the Susano'o announcer and watch him scream every time someone chooses him There's no rollback on console either so don't fall for that trap Also no instant rematch on console which is kind of annoying??? Still I played 400 matches to 3 rounnds with my friend Max sooo The game is VERY MUCH worth giving it a try, I don't know where I would be right now if I didn't play it If they update it on ps4 in the future immediately pick it up omg, or buy it in pc, or idk do it like me who just bought it because I didn't have a pc IT'S GOOD Also, CARNAGE SCISSORS

You're totally right about the look of the game; I am colorblind and have photosensitive epilepsy so I have trouble when there's a billion sparks or stupidly themed colors throughout. This colors and vfx in this game pop like no other fighting game out there and it's not a stuck to the ground footsie game. I can 6a anything as Terumi cos I can actually react. I first saw the manga, then the anime, and then I got to know that it was a fighting game series. I was jumping all hyped up when I saw that CF was so cheap. It was a great alternative for when DBFZ was not available in my region, and guess what? A few weeks later, rollback update, it was perfect. I kept playing the game, finding all the music, going through combo trials, looking up mixups & combos and oh... the game is so freaking entertaining to watch in a competitive venue. Tons of tourneys passed by and I'd just watch them all the way through. Then I saw that its community was even cooler, I mean, people who got the sauce and know tons of memeing are cool enough for me. I could play with anyone SEA, mainly Indonesia. I couldn't take a break from the damn thing. The ost is like Dante's unintelligible mixtape. Every time something stupid or amazing keeps happening each session. Talking of stupid, I'm very much into your content and others like Acme Arsenal and Maximillian Dood. It's as if I'm destined or some sh|t to keep playing this game, I love it.

one of the othe reasons why i like blazblue CF over most other fighting games is its combo degradation system. this lets a tone of combos to actually exist and lets you switch to what different combo you might need based on the situation, but doesnt let characters effectivly loop infinitly. infact attempting some of the more loop like combos even if they have there limits are normally not really good combos anyways because of when the opponent can drop out

I liked this review, but the DLC argument is kinda weak. Because BlazBlue Central Fiction IS the DLC. It was released before DLC as we know it was a thing. People were still raging over Bethesda selling horse armor a couple years earlier. Back then, you didn't buy individual characters because most game companies still hadn't fully adopted a digital distribution method. They also didn't really patch or update game mechanics on console games. So for fighting games that meat somewhere around a year after release there would be the next version of that game. It would have modified system and character mechanics, more story and added characters. While physically it was a different game, it was built literally on the original, it was just an updated version. The equivalent of a Season Pass and Balance Patch packaged as a discrete game. So BlazBlue was originally BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger. Then like a year later we got Continuum Shift, then....Chrono Phantasma? I forget the exact order. But each of these were the "updates" and they were all $60. If you hated how busted a system mechanic was and was super hyped to see how it would change...you had to shell out $60. Today if I dont care about playing Johnny in Strive, I just dont buy him. But I still get to see how the changes affect Nago. I'm still playing the same game as everyone else. But back in the day if I had BlazBlue Calamity Trigger and my buddies were all playing Continuum Shift, I was playing an old version of the game. And likely would struggle the longer I waited to buy the new version. So it was a larger purchase but less frequently. If we compare where Strive is now to where BlazBlue was at a similar point in its life, I would have spent $180 just to play Ragna on the current version even if I didn't care about any of the new characters. By comparison, if I bought Strive at launch and all the season passes at release (so no discounts) I would have spent about $140. Its not much cheaper, BUT if I loved a launch character and had NO interest in playing a new character, I could be playing the current version of the game with everyone else for only that initial $60. So while fighting games aren't much cheaper to unlock everything, they allow a much lower commitment just to play. And its less confusing. I was trying to get a friend to try BlazBlue, and they didn't pay attention when I said "BlazBlue Central Fiction" and they bought....Continuum Shift. Like four versions older. So while I get your argument, the reality is that any seven year old fighting game is going to be a better value deal than a brand-new one, or one still releasing content. Shoot, I got a friend DBFZ on PC with nearly all the DLC on a sale a while ago for like $40 dollars, and they only released their last character last year! The model has been updated, but it hasn't changed.

This was a really interesting video for me personally, and I think it fills a very unique gap in the discourse around Blazblue as well as modern fighting games as a whole... despite Blazblue being older than shit XD I've recommended Blazblue to many MANY friends who love fighting games only for them to bounce off like it's made of rubber, and this video both helped me realise why but also that Blazblue was never really FOR them, if that makes any sense? For context, I love this game. I love this series of games, I've been playing Blazblue since I was 14 years old and saw a dual wielding gun kata girl in Calamity Trigger and have been rocking up to tournaments since one long summer getting callouses in CSII. Conservatively, I've been playing for 15 odd years now, and CF is without a doubt my favourite fighting game of all time. With that out of the way, while I concur with this video, I have to offer a warning: this game is NOT for everyone and it can be played 'wrong'. If you want to quickly jump online and start having deep and meaningful mind games with another player... this is not the fighting game for you. It just isn't. You will get hit, confirmed into a short combo, will try and roll and loss half your health bar and then you will try and block and get mixed up 9 ways to Sunday by a character specific mixup and die without ever making a meaningful choice. And that will happen many MANY times to you. If you have friends the same level to play with, this will NOT happen to you. You will marvel at the insane bullshit this game allows you to do, constantly fuck up and have a great time doing so. But trying to jump online with randoms and you will die in horrific, shameful ways. But... that isn't why you should play Blazblue. This video is why you should play Blazblue. Because if you are the kind of person who simple wants to be rewarded for time and money invested and has plenty of the former and none of the latter, you simply cannot do better. The man here said it best, this game never stops giving. There is simply no other fighter I could or would have invested 15 years into as a series, there likely never will be again. This game doesn't care about giving you a fun experience for a few hours before another price tag rolls around, or even 20-50-100 hours of fun. This game wants every second you spend with it to be a new experience, a chance to learn something cool, try something unique, find some way to challenge yourself. And it doesn't care if you do that for 5 hours or 15 years, it will never stop living up to that promise. There is no other fighting game that rewards you quite the same way for what you put into it, that is flexible enough in its style and design to fit quite so many aesthetic tastes whilst still being clear and readable for a newcomer to understand. So yes, if you are looking for quick mindless fun Blazblue may not satisfy you, but if you are looking for a game to give as good as you give it... well you've watched the right video. Skoriath, even if you never make another review, I will always be grateful for this one. You did my favourite game proud. Keep doing Ragna 5B resets, you glorious bastard.

One pretty important thing about dlc in bbcf is that the extra content is only free on the steam version. Console version still has a fuck ton of dlcs

Don't worry for the story, to understand it fully you would need to play at least from CS. Plus there are light novels that add more explanations regarding the universe, aaand XBlaze and Lost Memories which are actual 100%vns. Though one thing I know you would enjoy are the voices, especially Yuichi Nakamura who went above and beyond to voice Hazama/Terumi. Unfortunately some other talents who voiced Kagura and Valk died about a few years back. Never watch Blazblue Alter Memory unless you care for other remixes of already existing OSTs. Btw Awakening the Chaos is largely considered the main theme of Blazblue, also by Mori, and you would actually hear it while scrolling on gallery mode in the previous titles.

you should've mentioned the small modding scene, where you're allowed to put any colors you want, and if other people have the mod, they can see your custom colors the mod also has an in-game currency editor

I've recently gotten back into blazblue (just combo trials for now) and I firmly believe bbcf is the game with the best characters in almost all aspects. I just always get surprised how unique every single character is while having a huge roster and not devolving into absolute kusoge territory.

This honestly puts a lot of my feelings for this game in words. BBCF and Killer Instinct are the 2 fighting games i constantly feel myself coming back to personally for so many of the reasons in this video. To bad it feels like BBCF came out to soon (or maybe thats why its a good product and isnt bogged down in its overall mechanics and presentation)

GGXX was my first fighting game and the matchup-specific character intros were dope then Blazblue implemented matchup-specific sound effects sometimes like Tao yelling about 'the squiggly' whenever she fights Arakune or Noel v Litchi "hands off the panda" move callouts, pain sounds, the line that plays when you tech sometimes changes there's something very special about arcsys games to me

I love your editing style, the small details like cutting off the clip with Ragna and Makoto just before the OD activate and then reusing the clip later in full is rad.
