My feeling is that Mercutio had at one point in the past (he is older than Romeo and the others) had a deep but tragic love story of his own. Where he was either jilted by the woman or lost his love to violence. Maybe she was arranged to another man and then denied her love for Mercutio, or maybe even died possibly with a child. Then after this failed love he went on a bender of violence, alcohol and debauchery, likely including bisexuality or group sexuality. Not that he was gay but that he went for anything to distract him from his true emotions with physical gratification. Then returning to Verona to hang out with his young friends, he found a bit of piece but would still on occasion slip into the anger and trauma of his past. Side Note: wearing "drag" to a costume party and openly being sexually vulgar to "everyone" does not mean he was gay. The 1996 Luhrmann version does not depict Mercutio as gay, more just debaucherous and bawdy.

Hi Pazaria, Planning to work on 'AIC' videos in June, which will be too late for your exam if you are in Y11. I will have released all the 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Of Mice and Men' videos by the time of the external exams - I hope these will be of help to you at least!

When you place two things next to one another to highlight their differences. In the case of Mercutio, he is placed next to Romeo to highlight their contrasting views on love: Mercutio is anti-romantic while Romeo is romantic.

Is it pronounced "Muh-QUE-she-oh" or "MER-QUE-she-oh"? I'm not very familiar with this, but was just reading about an old actor who played this character. Thanks
