Good evening ma’am I’m overwhelmed! Being a literature student I’m pleased to say you are the kind of teacher who inspires students to study literature and develop immense interest. I’m speechless about how all the information and explanation you provided just got absorbed in my understanding 🌸✨ really thankful! This was the first lecture I watched. I’d definitely go through all the other video lectures as well. Thanking you! Shreya Rawat Bhopal (MP)

That was an eloquent explanation , especially with those chuckle in between , the way you interpreted and imbued sentiments in the poem !!

Yeats was obsessed with Swans, in Ireland where I live they are quite common, they inhabit most waterways, and in Ireland, there are a lot of waterways. In 1922 Ireland had just won its independence from the British, Yeats who had a prominent role in the Irish cultural revival which was a big factor that lead to that. Winning the Nobel in 1923, was quite an event for our newly formed state, it gave us credence, it put us on the map. I think what makes him, perhaps, the best poet of the 20th century was the way he puts mood into a piece, it's always obscure you never, specifically, know where it comes from, his poems are a symphony, a whole emotional dance, and he's the conductor or the dancer and when a dancer is this good they disappear into the dance. Then, as in most of his poems, he leaves us with a showstopper. O body swayed to music, O brightening glance, How can we know the dancer from the dance? (beautiful) Great analysis, thanks.

Wow! Thanks so much for the insight. Comprehending poetry is the most humbling exercise. No matter how many times you have read the poem, when you read it again it seems to possess many more meanings.

Ma'am I think you made a mistake in the 4th stanza, in the line " And I though never of Ledaean kind/ Had pretty plumage once".
