Some sermons are topical in nature. In other words, the focus of the lesson centers on a given subject of study. Other sermons are expository in nature. In other words, the focus of the lesson centers on God's intent behind a given passage of scripture. Still, other sermons are textual in nature. In other words, the focus of the lesson centers on points taken quite literally from the text itself. 1 Thessalonians 5:21, 22 is an excellent example of a such a study. It reads, "But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil," and those admonitions produce a powerful, three-point, textual sermon straight from the pages of God's most holy word.
