@rebeccamay6420

Having learned recently that I have Autism, I'd like to contribute my thoughts on this difference in handwriting styles. I might describe my casual handwriting as Writing For Myself, which doesn't require much legibility, and my formal handwriting as Writing Legibly So That Others Can Read It Easily. Writing For Myself often requires more speed than proper form -- if I don't write fast enough, I might forget what it was that I wanted to write! Some of the Speedwriting symbols I learned in high school will often slip in for the sake of efficiency. I will sometimes use this form to scratch write my draft before making the legible copy that is intended for someone else to read. It might be comparable to the mess that happens on a kitchen countertop while cooking before bringing the presentation-plate to the table. ❤

I should send in my handwriting eventually lmao, my hands and writing in general is kinda weird now that I think of it. I have Renauds syndrome (don’t know how to spell) which makes it so my blood flow in specifically my hands can stop when I’m really cold, and my hand muscles were so weak I had to go to occupational therapy for it despite never having injured them. My writings also pretty weird: apparently I was really impatient when I was younger and taught myself how to write (incorrectly forming letters when writing) so I had to learn cursive (again at hand therapy lmao) so now I write in this weird mix of cursive and print at the same time for some reason. Would probably be interesting to know exactly howww weird it is from a graphology standpoint. Maybe eventually lol.

I want to say that the second sample looks like someone writing with their non-dominant hand with zero practice, perhaps they're a troll. If I tried to write with my non-dominant hand, that's pretty much what it would look like, for the simple reason that my non-dominant hand doesn't have a habit of writing with a pen. The handwriting with my dominant hand would look far different. I _could_ however write with it on a blackboard and the handwriting looks indistinguishable from the dominant hand on the same blackboard, so there's that... Once again, I'm glad to have subscribed. This is some really good, quality, content, and KZitem's algorithm is awesome for helping me discover your channel.

The part about using dominant vs non-dominant hand while standing at a blackboard/ whiteboard caught my attention. It was during high school that I noticed I was using my "wrong" hand while standing at the whiteboard, and that it felt just as natural as using my "correct" hand. I'm naturally left-handed, so writing with my literal right hand is actually writing with my wrong hand. I also remember reading about one of the former presidents who was naturally left-handed and normally wrote that way while seated, but he'd use his right hand while standing at a blackboard. I read it in a humorous book entitled something like, "The Natural Superiority of Being a Lefty." 📖❤

Interesting! I had a teacher whose lower case "t" would vary between normal script (coming back to add the cross bar after finishing the word) and semi-print (swooping cross bar into the start of the next letter) and "odd." I should also mention that she was more than 70 years old at the time, and I was in high school in the late 1980s to early 1990s, so her handwriting stemmed from the 1920s & 1930s style of penmanship. The odd one would come up to the top (this was only ever a mid-word "t" continuing from the previous letter or as and end-letter, and never as an initial "t") and straight downstroke then stop and change direction upward and arc forward, almost like a lower case "r" with a tall stem, the forward arc taking the place of a full cross bar.

Sure it’s a cool and interesting topic, but it feels weird to call someone’s handwriting concerning when they may just write like that for any number of reasons. You may cause people to freak out because they wrote in a way that says they have a lot of trauma, but they don’t have any and may think they’ve repressed some horrific event.

I feel like kids that are still kind of practising or honing in their writing will try more, and it’s less confident and slower, they’re pressing the pen on the paper harder etc. I’ve seen some pretty bad and childish looking handwriting from some men my age (20-30).
