If my voice sounds a bit odd, that's because I was a bit sick during recording. Oh well. Additionally, let me save hours of furious AnCap typing and response video editing with the following addendum: Rational self-interest is strictly a "first person limited" thing, i.e. the person decides what is rational based on their own reasoning, perspective and life situation. What might seem a completely bonkers act to outside observers might make perfect sense to the actor. In other words, "rational self-interest" is determined internally by the actor, and not externally by a theoretical "rational observer". However, outside observers can still extrapolate what the actor will do based on their circumstance and past actions.

Let's get them to do that as a part two... "AnCapistan 2: Till Kingdom Come" where the civil war breaks out between his children and the fighting impoverishes much of the middle class inside the wall. From this a popular leader from among the people arises and the final living Billy-Bob child assumes the thrown. Then a third to round out the trilogy... where the Blackwater solders are told to fire on women and children approach Billy-Bob's inner wall demanding bread. The security forces fracture under conflicting amoral orders. A commune is formed by the outside farm workers, revolting solders, and now impoverished former middle class from inside the walls. Unsurprisingly, corporations created their own city governments built around whatever resource extraction operation was there, enslaved the population through housing, loans, debt, and private "taxes", and created some of the worst living conditions in all of human history. Thousands upon thousands died in the mines in the middle of nowhere with absolutely no way of escaping, including child slaves. Amazon and Google even put an actual listening device in your home that people PAY for! But it's only bad if the government does that right? Because people can just stop paying these companies and they'll go under! If a government doesn't provide it's services you have to wait till the next election, but if we are comparing things that way, if this model of businesses were to be compared to a government, it'd be equal to a goverment party being able to disband any opposing party so that nobody can vote for them. Even if ancaps get rid of State, there will always be people willing to use violence to form it again. We just keep opposing them just like we did in the first time. Ancaps don't support a revolutionary take down of the State like socialism because that just creates a power vacuum thay will be filled by a tyrant. Instead it is about changing people's culture until this kind of violence becomes rejected by society as a whole. Then the State won't need to exist any more. Secondly how do you propose reforming the state as opposed to dismantling it in a way that lays ground for this hypothetical "non-corporatist" capitalism. Capitalism arose under and adjuct to the state and it's legality and definitions of the commodity of defined by such. I wonder...would you consider the East India Trading Company Ancapist? However, anarcho syndicalism proposes abolition of currency, which I don't think can happen without coercive enforcement. So for Ancapistan to work we just need a society where: -Every person will have perfect knowledge and expertise to make an informed choice in literally every transaction they make. -Every person harmed will have the knowledge, time, and resources to identify the source of the harm and prove that harm in court. -No company will ever form a monopoly or otherwise rig the market, courts, or political system in their favor despite having every incentive to do so. -Every company will clean up after itself environmentally and pay it's employees the true value of their work, despite having no incentive to do so. Yeah, seems so much easier to achieve than a functioning Republic where the government is accountable to the people and so hires experts to intelligently regulate business to prevent abuse.

@@Toddalotapodamus "it's not an ideal starting point because it handwaves the emersion of an ancap society as if how it is achieved is of little consequence." OK, sure. It handwaves that part, but I don't know if that's really important for this case. I think this is talking about where it ends up, but the specific ideology might not really matter when we're just saying what the result will be. If some system unavoidably ends with 90% of the population starving or in death camps within the first five years of the regime, hypothetically, then...would the ideological underpinning of that system really make a difference? Other than recognizing it as something we should put a stop to the second we see it on the horizon, why do we care? "We can discuss if you want." OK. From my perspective, libertarian and ancap type systems have some really critical flaws that lead to power concentration in one way or another. I think that power doesn't naturally self-distribute in an unregulated environment, so you need a system (government with adequate strength) to distribute it. You also, of course, need to engineer that government to be resistant to takeovers, which requires things like voting rights, education, and general awareness of politics and understanding of things like media and propaganda by the general populace. All of this is essentially attempting to maintain order within chaos and will eventually fall in the same way every living organism will eventually die, but we can still aim for more equitable and stable systems over the ones that will collapse into utter chaos or power concentration right away. How do you see these systems?

@@TheMisterGuy I definitely appreciate that you have ideas beyond what the video provided, especially as I find it so wanting. That said, I'd like to address some of that before moving past it. Adam's video posits nearly every claim from a vacuum. We're to make multiple leaps of logic merely to arive at his starting point of this make believe city. In his premise, we're told that society would have it's infrastructure in tact, but that pretty well goes right out the window immediately after being presented. Society seems to be structures in some weird post-civilisation future where populations are such that only one man has the idea to provide better water (an issue that effects everyone) but there is somehow the manpower and wealth to build the infrastructure for his expansion. For some reason, even though these people would have the same education, technology and weaponry as we do today, nobody questions the shadier aspects of Billy Bob's enterprise. Somehow there's no competition Bob has to overcome. And somehow, Bob manages to accomplish something that there is no recorded history of ever being done before: shut down a potential competitor with predatory pricing. And he's somehow able to do this several times. We can move past the video, but do you see why I'd find it lacking? Do you disagree with anything I've said so far?

Ancom without checks and balances creates ancap, ancap without checks and balances allows a few small, powerful people with all the wealth and money and power to take over, and at that point it's literally just feudalism: landlords holding all the power.

The most fascinating part of this is that eventually this feudal society you created would progress further into a mixed society with a parliament and a primitive democracy, which would lead to wars and battles, eventually resulting in a proper democracy after a few false starts, eventually taking them into a modern day society where the democratically voted government struggles to maintain a balance between privatised and nationalised businesses, and an anarcho-capitalist movement builds up demanding an end to all this government malarkey and a return to anarchy as that would save their society, taking us right back to the start and beginning the cycle again.

Anarcho-capitalism actually was tried in the US, the Free Town Project was set up in Grafton, New Hampshire, by libertarians and survivalists from all over America, they quickly displaced the native Grafton population, who began to flee after the town descended into madness. The Anachro-capitalists stopped paying taxes, which caused the police and fire department to go bankrupt, sanitation and infrastructure also ceased, which caused bears to overrun the town, finally putting an end to this experiment. The anarcho-capitalists overestimated their abilities to run a town without centralisation, they didn't have enough money, they could not raise revenue, they failed to estimate the cost of running a community, there is a cost to saving money, but in the end, it was the bear that won in this contest of human folly.

Companies are voluntary, government is compulsive. That’s the difference. Edit: sorry, will only be responding to actual arguments, or things that aren’t easily searchable on Google. Edit: companies don’t own “all the land”; there is plenty of land available for purchase. There’s also REITs and plenty of real estate investment options. And, who wants to own land anyways?? I’d much rather own an online business that I can do from ANYWHERE, sell to customers across the planet, and live wherever has the best QoL and lowest government taxes. Even if you rent, you can vote with your feet literally every 6-12 months.

@Sound Bitez Capitalism requires a state to enforce private property rights, which is why anarchist theory in academia is a leftist political theory... an anti-capitalist ideology. Anarchism is considered the most radical left wing ideology, it's to the left of communism. Anarcho-capitalism is a misinterpretation of anarchist theory. One of the best examples of this is the conflation between government and state. Many anarcho-capitalists wish to abolish the government, but they often wish to uphold state distinctions; they advocate for states without governance. Another example... both ANCAPs and anarchists oppose things like police and militaries... but ANCAPs want corporations to protect and defend their own private property, which would require armed forces. This idea would simply result in capitalist firms buying up and controlling all land and commodities. You'll be buying an AMAZON house on AMAZON land, and if you break the law... AMAZON police will send you to AMAZON's prison. If you don't like AMAZON land, just move to WALMART land, but... you better hope AMAZON and WALMART don't have a disagreement, a cooperate war won't be a fun time for anybody living nearby.

It's actually exactly anarchism. The power vacuum for a future dictatorship to rise. Someone eventually gets enough force to take over other communities, and since there are no governments, and no organized militias, there is nothing to stop those groups, but other groups like that.

@@wannabehistorian371 You'd have to ask one of the different branches of anarchism for their solutions, because they do have them. Most believe in small communities with communal solutions, but the particulars are widely different, so your snarky questions mean nothing in the face of your lack of knowledge of what anarchism really is. For what it matters, I think it can't work, but acting as if it was a dumb idealistic theory as opposed to a wide network of ideas with very practical solutions to very real problems is just basing your conclusions on ignorance (or worse, on propaganda).

The only reason, the Icelandic Commonwealth could exist for so long, lies in Icelands geography. Being a remote Island with very little natural resources, foreign invasions would have been way too costly for most of its history. People often take this "I was X until Y" approach to simultaneously confirm their current beliefs while deriding their old. But it simply doesn't mean anything. It happens with every ideology. "I was democrat and now I'm republican", "Christian and now Muslim", "Atheist now Messianic Jew", and visa versa to each of those examples. All that means is that you found evidence compelling to *YOU* and had previous experiences and behavioral biology to predispose you to the newfound ideology.
