I truly look up to Greg. While I never played in a band, I was heavily involved in the local hardcore punk/metal scene in my country, Hungary. I have been in academia for 16 years now and I can closely identify with what Greg says about the similarity of science and punk rock (and in fact many other genres of non-mainstream music). To me punk attitude is about challenging the status quo...in science and in life in general.

Obviously Greg is on a whole different level and the others can't help but try and draw the conversation back to a level that the other sheep can relate to. Good for him for remaining poised and not pandering. Punk rock means knowing what you believe and understanding what you are against. Not just being a minor ignorant thorn in society's side, but one that is buried deep.

"Punk rock means knowing what you believe". A paradox right there; beliefs are based on delusions, not evidence. Reality hits much harder those who see the world through rose-colored glasses, but that's just the way people need to live: under permanent self-deception (or everything would be extremely unbearable, I guess...).

Environmental Scientists also have hit the "ordered" issue as in the case of 'balance in nature'. The more information we aquire the more it becomes painfully clear that there is no linear directed balance in any environment and I think Graffin as an evolutionary biologist has probably hit on this same road block in his studies as evolution is dependent on environment.

Wow, hold on and lets unpack this little jewel of a comment. So according to you, Graffin the blathering fool is " the most intelligent, and intellectual person then anyone that I would know based upon educated thoughts through science form especially through music." MichiganMike15, were did you go to school? This sentence is close to complete gibberish, did you finish high school? Ok lets just move on to the next grammatical cluster fuck " Religion is the most ignorant thing a person could ever believe in, and would be more of the blathering fool in that source." Right, so I guess I could get what your saying since you did use some key words but Mike besides the fact that this has nothing to do with my comment on Greg Graffin, your fixation on religion borders on delusion. Tin foil hats aside Mike, you should really try and organize your thoughts or at least seek medical treatment for those racing thoughts. I can't say for sure that people aren't out to get you but that voice in the T.V. might be. Just saying.

They teach us in school now that the founding fathers wernt actually Christians. Either that, or they 100% skip teaching or talking about any biblically related phrases or parts of our constitution and bill of rights. My teachers stress the fact that Benjamin Franklin had a black wife that was his slave, and how we took the Indians land, but never talk about any Christian related ideas in the History of America. Schools now a days make our founding fathers out to look like assholes. At least in California. So... That's where that guy gets his information probably. America is so twisted and ruined now.

Part II Believing that god created the primary matter is completely alright for now, so long as you don't think that he is also the driving force behind things that happen today. There's an analogy I like to use: You are told that there is a black cat in a dark cave and that you need to find it. Philosophy is looking for it in the dark, Religion is giving up on looking, merely shouting "I've found it!", Science is using a flashlight.

We all have free will. Even Christians can choose how they are going to use it. We're not talking about a politician, we're talking about an all-knowing, all-powerful God. He made you, and Romans 1 says that you know He exists. You can't oppose something you don't believe exists, that's just crazy. Everyone knows that God exists, but not everyone has heard His word. Christ cannot return until everyone has been taught His word. I believe in both the Old Testament and New Testament.

It's not childish to make up stories. It's human nature and neither of them do a good job addressing that question. Also, the big bang theory while it is a very scientific theory is also a story and it has not been proven. I just don't like how condescending one side was and how defensive the other was. Also, did the actor seriously just call it childish for people to make up stories? The entirety of his profession is dependant on people writing stories for him to act out. I fail to comprehend all these atheists who don't even work in a scientific profession and their need to belittle people for their faith. It doesn't have to make sense to them. It's not their life. What is it hurting that someone believes in God? I would make the arguement that it's instinctual for humans to believe in a higher power. Every culture and every religion speaks of something greater than themselves that created everything. Regardless of whether or not there actually is a god of some sort, The atheists are kind of the odd ones out here. Honestly the belief in a higher power really isn't the actual issue. It's using that belief to control people or do harm to others. That's where religion goes wrong. Otherwise, it's really not that horrible a thing.

But you don't understand a simple thing. It doesn't matter whether the God exists or I belive in him. I've not even said that I belive in God. But we must assume that to talk about him. You can't prove that God isn't omniXXX if you say he doesn't exists at all. And his potential "errors of my own reasoning" aren't errors,as I explained in previous comment. And about devil... I assume believing in catholic God, as this is the most popular religion in our culture and they belive in satan as well.

I don't have faith in him. That shatters your statement. For all to believe in him means all have to know about him. What about the people in china? What about the Jews? What about the Hindus? They don't believe in jesus. It isn't a uniting factor at all. A statement of absolutes is easily broken, if one person doesn't believe then you cannot say that everyone believes or that we all do. You need to amend your words.

I also dont know how you think god is good. Humans were around for at least 90,000 yrs before christ came. People died painful deaths, were terrified by natural disasters, had no means of understanding the world around them, people dying of starvation, disease dehydration. If you believe in god then you have to believe that he sat around for thousands of years and did nothing to help people crying out for it.

Interesting, your argument is that you cannot be upset with religions because of the actions of those within the religion who do not teach the correct doctrine? Which doctrine is correct then? Is it the protestants? The Catholics? Who are you to decide? All religions require you to have faith in something that cannot be proven, something that robs people of the ability to reason. If you make excuses to believe something without truth you are fooling yourself and barring progress as well.
