I know. I know everyone in this band I've been in their jam sessions.infact me and Jeff Beck get a shared mention of inspiration for one of their albums.Lee dated my cousin who also was a member. Glad to see how far they came from tiny pubs to large Catherderals. great band and lees voice is amazing.

I think the lyrics of this song are a clue. It's a band of extreme emotional lows and highs. Not everyone experiences life to those extremes, or they experience them in a different way. It comes across to some people as overly earnest or dramatic. I've bawled my eyes out to their music too many times though.

And this was written by the drummer - John Douglas! 'The Storm' section is pretty good but 'The Calm'...just when you thought the song couldn't hit another peak, it hits two. And Vincent singing 'Fight the fight from day 'til night..'til night...'til night...'til night...'til night'? Can any other modern vocalist hold a note that long? This is my favorite modern Anathema song, and is beaten only by the older Fragile Dreams.

+Richard Goddard I didn't like it! I actually think this song is inferior to all the other songs on the album. Sadly it is ruined for me because of the very unfitting (and even musically not that well done) first half, a mediocre buildup of the second half and the tedious end. The only good part is 6:37 - 7:43. The guitar solo does not fit the song at all and distracts from it. The orchestra is wonderful in this song and I love that it is live here! All their other songs are vastly better. The good part of this song is on par with the Untouchables, but is dragged down by weird direction choices. And yes... I get what they were going for with that first part. I just think it makes the rest of the song way worse.
@jethroreading7168
8 жыл бұрын
+Moritz Korsch I disagree with your interpretation. The first half, unsettling as its meant to be, has such a cathartic release when it gets to the end. The emotion in the final couple of minutes blows my mind every time I hear it, and as always Lee Douglas's voice is almost without compare.
@moritzkorsch9029
8 жыл бұрын
+Jethro Reading I get what you are saying and I agree with the emotional second part (as I said in my original comment - the timestamp). The release is great, yes, but both parts of the song are extremely disconnected and on an album that already has a two-parter it makes me scratch my head. untouchables is two parts (even separate songs on the album) and clearly connected through a theme, whereas this is two disconnected parts in one song. It just feels like a weird design choice when they already did it perfectly before! I love this song for its emotion. I love the orchestra and how it's written here. I just feel like this could have been one of the best musical pieces ever created by them but it is held back...
@jonathonrose5141
7 жыл бұрын
There are many parts if grief, and the beginning when you "can't feel anything at all" naturally moves into the chaotic middle section as you deal. And then the second half, a more perfect description of how grief works in the post shock stage you're not likely to find. As an expression of all of that I think it works painfully perfectly, at least from my own experiences. Yours might well be different, but if someone was to ask me what grief and the pain and changing emotions felt like, I'd direct them to this song.
