I knit the heel flap and gusset heel with just a couple extra rows on the heel flap, I have chunky feet, and my first pair of socks are a little tight at the ankle. You’ve relieved my curiosity about short row heels, I hate doing the gusset, but I’m not sure short row heels would fit me. I like the pattern on your socks made with plain yarn.❤

Thanks! full grown women who hates her socks material looking perfect on foot until putting shoes on and then seeing material balled up at the back of my foot and poking out the sneaker, short boot, rain/gardening rubber shorties etc. I have flat feet yet never knew to look for particular types of socks until today. I will find short row heels!

I'm knitting my first pair of socks (in worsted weight) to wear around the house. I bought fingerling yarn and don't want to waste it so this was very helpful in knowing which patterns might work better for me. Thanks so much!

Have been looking for such a comparison; you have been a great help since you explain it quite technically and practically. Thank you for this and all other videos 🙏

Love this explanation!!! Can't wait for your comparison of short row techniques. I love short row socks myself so this would be great to see.

Interesting idea! The different short row shaping techniques don't really create different fits, but they do create different looks. I need to add this to my topic idea list.

Great explanation! I've made them all, but feel that the gusset, heel flap is sturdier as well, and so the socks last longer!

I absolutely love listening to you and watching your videos! You are so clear, detailed and calm in your explanations and sooo easy to follow. No nonsense or extra chat! Thank you! I am still struggling with heels. I do like the short row the best re look, fit and style but I always seem to get gaps and holes. Maybe I knit too loosely? I finished my first short row eith double stitches and will try to do better on my second. I always have one side of the heel that comes out neater!

Thank you so much! I never understood the difference, so thank you for explaining. (Now I just have to figure out which my feet are ;-) ) I knit two at a time, toe up, so now I just have to find the right heel pattern for that direction. I really like your videos, thank you for making them.

Good news! I'm planning on doing a similar 3-heel pattern and video with toe up socks in the spring. ;)

Interesting! What is your favorite? The one without the flap looks the least complicated just add more ribbing? Also, could you think about creating raglan mens like hunting socks. Winter socks if we get colder for birkenstocks in Nebraska. For all sizes. Thanks

Hi Julie. When I'm knitting socks for myself I almost always use a short row heel. I like knitting them and they fit my feet best. And I'll add your idea to my list. ❤

The flap and gusset works perfectly for a deep instep. You just need to make the flap a little bit longer.

Very helpful - Thank you 👏🥰. I use only flexi flip needles for socks. For a beginner like me, an your “Ready, Set, Go” pattern be adapted relatively easily to construction with flexi flip needles? ?

Hi Bonnie, great question! All of my newer sock patterns, including this one, are written in needle neutral terms so you can knit them on whatever style needles you enjoy most.

Just discovered this video. Nice review! I wonder how your review of the short row heel might change if you used Mini Philipp's "Mini Heel Flap Adjustment". It's part of her Vanilla Sock Recipe on Ravelry. Just a thought. I haven't tried it yet, but plan to.

How does the gusset/heel flap fit compared to the band heel method? I just saw that video that you made.

I have not done a structural comparison of those two heels worked with the same thickness of yarn in the same sock size, so I'll add it to my topic idea list.
