Came here for this. Animations for simple things like key cap sizing was real nice. Same aesthetic and feel to the intro.

it would be nice to specify that buying an off-the-shelf keeb is nothing problematic, I see a lot of people judging other for "not going custom" (on a few hardware related discord servers at least). Kind of like if you didn't build yourself your PC you weren't part of the PC Master race back in the day. Most people don't have time or motivation for custom keyboards and while those are obvioulsy superior, you shouldn't be put in shame for that. otherwise great video :D

@Hữu Nhân Lê I see. Thanks for your reply. I ordered a ducky horizon TKL board cause I heard they were good. Doesn't have LED backlighting. I wanted cherry profile and PBT keycaps so I got some nice white on black ones (preferred normal color set up) from novel keys but they aren't shine through. The combo of PBT cherry profile AND shine through keycaps for LED backlighting barely exists. I found maybe 2 sets after searching for a while and they were not quality/good colors. I was thinking about sending the ducky back (all of their keycaps are OEM but i'm sure the board itself is nice and I have the keycaps to swap out) in favor of a board with LED backlighting. But wait would LED back lighting even look good if the keycaps aren't shine through? Ill just get a nice desk lamp LOL. I dunno. The ducky board was $135 dollars. Seems that these custom combos you can put together on sites like KBD fans can cost you 250 or more for the board switches and keycaps. I also got Tribosys 3204 to lube the cherry mx brown switches which are soldered in (don't know how to solder)...so i'm going to use the small paint brush technique to hit all sides of the switch EXCEPT the side that says "cherry" on it (recommended for tactile switches). I also got the red O rings from WASD which are smaller than the blue ones. Then finally I got some neoprene sound dampening foam so I can open up the board and put it in the bottom. So yea thats what i'm putting together. Any more info/answers/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
@matthewharse8626

Oh and I also got switch films but apparently you don't need those unless the switch housings go bad and get loose. I wouldn't be able to apply them anyway because Id have to desolder to get the switches out. So ill probably send them back.

This is amazing! Thank you so much, I love your other vids too. This one just confirms what I've managed to piece together over the last year, haha. I've already just purchased a hotswappable and some extra switch types. What would be great for future concise videos like this would be: how to source less expensive than GMK but still quality keycaps, tools for modding, and how to navigate group buys. These are my next steps. Also I'm glad this is a safe space to talk about lube, sans judgement.
