I feel like this bracelet would get caught on everything in my modern life, but it's so well worn that whoever originally owned it, must have worn it quite a bit. I have no doubt that they were a devotee of the Ptolemaic cult of Isis, a mystery cult (she was, after all, the goddess of mystery) promising its adherents a better afterlife. I feel like this was the promise of all cults back then, so their offer must have been especially enticing.
Made of gorgeous high karat gold (hence the wear), looped into sinuous, simple curves and sporting two delightful miniature busts of Isis, this bracelet has that wonderful blending of Hellenestic and Egyptian aesthetics that is the hallmark of Ptolemaic Egypt.
This is held at the Getty museum in California, which was the center of a very public scandal involving a mountain of looted and counterfeit antiquities at the end of the 20th century. This bracelet, however, appears to be the real deal.
