A fantastic 'must watch' video on Ancient Japanese Coins of the Edo Period.
Between 1603 - 1867 Samurai Warriors, Beautiful Geishas, and Talented Kabuki actors flourished and roamed the countryside of Japan.
This period was known as the 'Edo or Tokugawa Period, where the executive power was vested in the Shogun, who ruled the country with his able Daimyos, and Samurai forces.
Some notable Samurai warriors were, Oda Nobunaga who set the motion that would reunify the nation and end the Warring State Period. Another Samurai was, Yasuke, an African who became Oda Nobunaga's bodyguard and ultimately rose to become Japan's 'Black Samurai.' Of course, the most famous of the Samurai was, Tokugawa Ieyasu from whom the Tokugawa Shogunate took its name.
Though this was a period of certain bloodshed, some form of calm was there from external forces, as Japan practiced a 'closed-door policy'. It was not until 1854 after the signing of the 'Kanagawa Treaty', that Japanese ports opened up to the American ships.
The Edo period came to an end in 1867, with the birth of the 'Meiji Period'.
