The ancient port of Kechries is located on the eastern coast of the Corinthian Gulf, approximately 15 kilometres southeast of the city of Corinth. The port was an important trade and military port of ancient Greece. Pioneering port facilities, warehouses, and buildings were used in this area. Findings of the area are stored in the Isthmia Museum. In addition, the port was strategically located near the Isthmus of Corinth, which connected the Peloponnese peninsula with mainland Greece. This location was the gateway between the Aegean and Ionian Seas, making it a key point for maritime trade. Today the location is open to the public. Visitors to Kechries can still see the remains of the ancient port, including the pier, the harbour basin, and several buildings that were once used for storing and processing goods.
