Ok, this isn't the place for anthropology debate, but speaking of Turkic ethnic groups hides a generalization error. Ancient civilizations were widespread in larger scale than ethnic. For instance, Celtic peoples neighboring Germanic, Iranian and Slavic peoples covered most of modern Europe. These were not nations but nation groups, larger entities. It’s wrong to say that Europe had four major nations. Saying that Altaic civilization is Turkic, has the same error as saying that Slavic civilization is Russian, or Germanic civilization is French. Nation groups comprise several nations, sometimes in enmity with each other, sometimes with distinct cultural aspects. Franks, Saxons, Normans, Bohemians, Bavarians were all Germanic nations. Plural! France, England, Denmark, Bohemia and Saxony are countries (or territories) of distinct nations speaking distinct languages. Call all Altaic people Turkic if you don't come up with a better term. But thinking of a single Turkish nation spreading from Mongolia to Thrace is dangerously misleading. By the way, the dance is beautiful and she is a terrific dancer.

Yasar, are those not Bhuddist images mixed in? That is not a mistake. From about the 9th to the 14th century, Buddhism was the religion for most Uyghurs. The Uyghurs were the first Turkish group to convert to Islam over a long period.

To my ear, it is very traditional Uyghur musical composition, but something in the last 10 seconds sounded suspiciously like an electronic synthesizer. Her dancing was spot on, traditional, if a bit more gymnastic than I usually see from Uyghur dancers. As Yasar Topcur says, the Uyghur are his brothers. Their DNA shows they are almost the same genetically as Turks and their language is about 70% the same as Turkish. I was in Urumqi, Turpan, and Kashgar in 2006 and enjoyed plenty of singing and dancing.

The term "Uyghur" was not used to refer to any existing ethnic group in the 19th century, but to an ancient people. A late 19th-century encyclopedia titled The cyclopædia of India and of Eastern and Southern Asia said "the Uigur are the most ancient of Turkish tribes, and formerly inhabited a part of Chinese Tartary (Xinjiang), which is now occupied by a mixed population of Turk, Mongol, and Kalmuck".[30] The inhabitants of Xinjiang were not called Uyghur before 1921/1934. Westerners called the Turkic speaking Muslims of the Oases "Turki", and the Turkic Muslims in Ili were known as "Taranchi". The Russians and other foreigners used the names "Sart",[31] "Turk", or "Turki"[32][33] for them. These groups of peoples identified themselves by the oases they came from, not by an ethnic group.[34] Names such as Kashgarliq to mean Kashgari were used.[35] The Turkic people also used "Musulman", which means "Muslim", to describe themselves.[35][36]

@redshield3843
7 жыл бұрын
To answer your question shortly, all countries from Arabs to China to Syberia were turks. Read about Movaraunnahr. Or Mowaraunnahr. It is an old and great history. Now all countries that end with "stan" were One. But russian empire came and broke it to pieces, gave it names and new flags.divided turks to nations. We were taught wrong history about ourselves. Just like french and germans broke Ottoman empire and cut Suriya Palestine etc.from Turkey and drew a new map over those lands. We were all One.

And yes we used arabic shrift but wrote and spoke in turkish. Turkey also used arabic shrift but wrote and spoke turkish. Only ughur uzbeks(turks) did not change because it had fought and won itself its litle but country in China,did not change unlike us, which i thank them alot. They still use arabic shrift like we did before we became a part of USSR and was changed to cyrilic. Turkey changed to latin shrift.
